INTRODUCTION
A research fund was granted to the Institute for the Environment and Development (LESTARI) and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) by the Construction Industry Development Board of Ma- laysia (CIDB) for a project entitled ‘Waste Minimi- zation and Recycling Potential in the Construction Industry’. Funding of this research project is in line with CIDB’s vision towards Good Environment Prac- tices for the Construction Industry. Basically, the project aims to produce standards and guideline docu- ments as well as examples of best practices to mini- mize and recycle construction waste. FRIM’s role in the project is based primarily on waste minimization and recycling of wooden materials. Towards this end, a one-day Workshop will be organized in order to create awareness among stakeholders on the possi- bility of producing useful products from construction wood waste. While recycling of construction wood waste will be the main focus of the Workshop, rel- evant subjects related to timber properties and utili- zation will also be highlighted.
OBJECTIVES
This workshop is jointly organized by FRIM, CIDB and LESTARI with the following objectives:
• To identify factors related to wood waste minimisation and recycling within the construction industry.
• To provide a platform for discussion on feasible and quality products that could be produced from construction wood waste.
• To highlight the importance of timber in local building construction.
• To improve general knowledge in timber properties and utilization.
TARGET GROUP
Contractors, developers, planners, policy-makers and engineers as well as researchers in fields re- lated to the construction industry.
REGISTRATION FEES
Registration fees of RM50.00 will cover workshop materials, lunch and refreshments.
Payment should be made either by cheque or postal order or bank draft in favour of Director General FRIM. All payments should be sent to the Workshop Secretariat.
