Health risk assessment (HRA) is a systematic scientific characterization of potential adverse health effects resulting from human exposures to hazardous agents or situations in the environ- ment. Quantitative HRA generates a numerical measure of the risk or safety of a chemical expo- sure. This course will introduce participants to the aims and methodology of HRA, its applica- tions in research, environmental standard and guideline setting and environmental impact as- sessment. Participants will get hands-on experi- ence of using a USEPA-based HRA software to compute the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks from human exposures to toxic chemicals through various exposure routes.
Course participants will be trained by highly experienced consultants who have conducted numerous research and consultancy assignments in HRA assessment both locally and internation- ally. They have had many years of academic and professional training experience. Besides acquir- ing the theory as well as practical applications of HRA from these trainers, participants will also be able to tap the knowledge from years of experi- ences of the trainers. The course will be a two and a half day course covering the fundamentals of HRA, exercises on HRA, hands-on computer modelling training, and group work and presen- tation on HRA assignments. A certificate of com- pletion will be given to participants upon com- pletion of the course.
