EM Miri Branch, together with Miri City Council (MCC) and JKR (Miri Division) had successfully organised an Innovative Overhead Pedestrian Bridge Design Competition, sponsored by Y.B. Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr G e o rge Chan Hong Nam, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak and Minister of Modernisation of A g r i c u l t u re cum Minister of Industrial Development. This competition started on 15 September 2006 and ended on 15 December 2006.

The Competition is organised for engineers and a rchitects in Sarawak and with the following objectives:

• To promote engineering through the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia

• To enhance and improve the image and social status of Miri City as a Resort City

• To enhance road safety as well as to promote civic a w a reness of the citizens of Miri city

• To initiate and help improving pedestrian crossing safety on the ro a d .

An award presentation had been organised on 10 Marc h 2007 at the Grand Palace Hotel, Miri. The winning designs will be recommended to Miri City Council for implementation. The results of the competition are as b e l o w :

University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus.
