ITEX 07 COMPETITION RULES 1. Eligibility

The competition is open to all exhibitors of ITEX 07.

An inventor may be an individual or corporate inventor. He/she is permitted to submit as many entries as he/she wishes but a separate application shall be made for every entry. Only entries with payment of competition fees will be accepted.

2. Non-Eligible Persons

The following are not eligible to enter the competition:-

a) Members of the Organising Committee of ITEX 07 and their families.

b) Members of the Panel of Judges for the Competition and their families.

3. Exclusions

The following are not acceptable for the exhibition or competition:-

a) Inventions or designs which are known to be used by others or contrary to public order, morals, public health or welfare.

b) Inventions which have won prizes and/or awards at any competition organised under previous ITEX.

c) Normally inventions which are non-patentable under the Malaysian Patents Act will not be

accepted. However, such entries may be considered for acceptance on case to case basis.

4. Categories

The competition shall be divided into 2 categories, namely:-

Category A : Local inventions for creative works by Malaysian(s) / Permanent Resident(s) of Malaysia Category B : Foreign inventions

5. Display and Demonstration by Inventors Inventors shall (if so required by the Panel of Judges) display and demonstrate to the Panel of Judges the working models, illustrations or drawings and samples of products described in their entries together with a description of the raw materials used and the various steps involved in the case of manufactured products.

Such displays and demonstrations shall be maintained at the exhibition site for the entire duration of the exhibition of ITEX 07.

The final judging shall take place at the exhibition site on the first day of the exhibition or any other day deemed suitable by the Organiser.

6.Closing Date of Entries

Entry form shall be submitted to the Event Manager before 20 April 2007, unless otherwise permitted by the Organising Committee.

7.Awards and Prizes

Awards would be given to winners of the

competition. Medals and Certificates of Merit shall be given to the winners. The overall best invention will also be awarded the WIPO Gold Medal.

The Panel of Judges reserves the right to declare no winners in any of the categories if the Panel deems that there are no entries of deserving merit. In such event the Panel may award consolation prizes of such amount as may be determined at the sole discretion of the Panel.

Certificates of Participation shall be presented to all Inventors in accordance to inventor names as submitted in the competition entry form. Additional inventor names are strictly not allowed after results are announced.

8.Judgement Criteria

The general criteria for judging are as follows:

a) Novelty and inventiveness b) Usefulness and application c) Presentation and demonstration d) Commercial potentialities 9.Disclaimer

a) The decision of the Panel of Judges shall be final and binding. Inventors are deemed to agree that they shall abide by such decisions and shall not be entitled to be paid or indemnified for any losses, expenses or damages by the Panel of Judges or any of its members or the organisers of the competition and its officers and employees in respect of any matters which may arise from or be connected to the organisation conduct and results of the competition.

b) In the case of entries which have not been granted Letters of Patent, Utility Innovation Certificates of Registration of Designs by any competent authority for the granting of such rights, any favourable or unfavourable decisions by the Panel of Judges shall have no legal standing nor be cited in any way in regard to the patentability or registrability of such items under the respective laws.

c) Intending Inventors shall note that in many countries participation in exhibition/competitions may constitute “disclosure” of the invention concerned under their respective patent laws. Inventors are advised to take the necessary action to protect their patent and registration rights against forfeiture of such rights due to such “disclosure”. The Organiser of ITEX 07 shall not be liable for any forfeiture of patent rights suffered by any Exhibitor/Inventor due to his participation in ITEX 07.
