Malaysia committed in supporting SDG 2030 agenda
Malaysia became the second nation in ASEAN to host the biennial ISI WSC 2019 that was held from August 18-23, 2019

D e p a r t m e n t of Statistics M a l a y s i a (DOSM) p l a y s a vital role to e n s u r e that t h e d e v e l o p m e n t of i n d i c a t o r s will be the focal point in the ASEAN W o r k i n g G r o u p S D G ' s I n d i c a t o r s (WGSDGI) d e v e l o p m e n t , b o t h lo- cally a n d internationally. To d a t e , M a l a y s i a ' s S D G s p r o g r e s s c a n b e seen in its g o v e r n a n c e a n d i m p l e - m e n t a t i o n of a r o a d m a p , d a t a as- s e s s m e n t a n d d a t a a c h i e v e m e n t in keeping with the five pillars of pros- perity, p a r t n e r s h i p , p e a c e , p l a n e ta n d p e o p l e .

2,500 delegates from over 130 coun- tries travelled to M a l a y s i a to s h a r e i n s i g h t s o n d e v e l o p m e n t s in statis- tical science a n d the a d v a n c e d a p - plication of statistics f o r discovery, i n n o v a t i o n a n d d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g , w i t h m o r e t h a n 1,500 p a p e r s p r e - sented a n d discussed over a p e r i o d of six d a y s .
A s h o s t s of t h e 62n d ISI W S C 2019, t h e e v e n t h a s c r e a t e d v a s t e x p o s u r e for t h e n a t i o n a l statistics o f f i c e r s , b o t h locally a n d i n t e r n a - tionally. D O S M is c e l e b r a t i n g its 70th a n n i v e r s a r y t h i s y e a r a n d is n o w c l o s e r t o r e a l i s i n g its v i s i o n of b e c o m i n g a l e a d i n g s t a t i s t i c a l o r g a n i s a t i o n t h a t is r e c o g n i s e d o n t h e i n t e r n a t i o n a l s t a g e b y t h e y e a r 2020.
DOSM is also focused on m a k i n g statistics c u r r e n t a n d r e l e v a n t to every person as statistics play a cru- cial role in t h e n a t i o n a l e c o n o m i c e v o l u t i o n a n d in t h e daily lives of M a l a y s i a . D O S M will c o n t i n u e t o f o r g e a h e a d o n its m i s s i o n to p r o - d u c e n a t i o n a l statistics w i t h integ- rity a n d reliability.
Earlier, on A u g u s t 18 2019, a s a c o r p o r a t e s o c i a l r e s p o n s i b i l i t y (CSR) initiative, a tree p l a n t i n g ac- tivity w a s c a r r i e d o u t at t h e Forest R e s e a r c h I n s t i t u t e M a l a y s i a ( F R I M ) t o c o m m e m o r a t e t h e ISI W S C 2019.
