This book is a compilation of summaries that describe the programmes that have been run by the academics and students at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi MARA. The main objective of the programmes is to create a platform for the faculty members to take part in social innovation projects in the local community. More importantly, the programmes also complement the students' regular class experience as they also can learn a range of skills that can make them more active socially and entrepreneurially.

Definition of social innovation:

Social innovations are new ideas that meet social needs, create social relationships and form new collaborations. These innovations can be products, services or models addressing unmet needs more effectively.

Story

"It's Never Too Late" motivation programme was organised by MESA as one of the activities planned for 2019. This type of programme is important as it enables the opportunity for MESA's members to be exposed to the school setting and the secondary school students as facilitators. This programme also allowed MESA members with the opportunity in manage and control a large group of students involved in the activities conducted. The purpose of this programme was not only to provide final academic guidance to the students in preparing them for SPM but also to enable them to explore their preferred learning styles (visual, auditory or kinaesthetic). On top of that, the facilitators discussed in details the do's and don'ts in helping the students to create their own notes using the FUEL (F-frame, U-understanding, E-explore, L-lay) technique. The feedback from the students were very impressive as they became more confident in answering Mathematics questions after attending this programme.

Beneficiaries/ Stakeholders

Through this programme, the undergraduates student can improve their soft skills such as communication skills, thinking skills, problem-solving skills and teamwork skills. Furthermore, their self-learning skills and time management skills can be trained through the application of the techniques taught to them.

The school students will also be more motivated before sitting for their SPM examination as they are able to make early preparation.

Key lessons

The "It's Never Too Late" motivation programme encourages self-learning skills in mathematics among students and emphasises on the importance of making early preparation, as well as improving students' soft skills.
