ABSTRACT
This study delves into the foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the pivotal role played by Heydar Aliyev. It discusses the factors that have influenced Azerbaijan's foreign policy decisions, provides a concise historical overview of the nation, and examines the complexities arising from the establishment of an Armenian (Christian) state within Azerbaijan's borders, with a specific focus on the state security implications of the Armenian problem in the region. Additionally, this research sheds light on the perspective of certain states that perceive the Armenian issue as a potential tool for regional intervention. This study underscores Heydar Aliyev's vital contributions to safeguarding the integrity and survival of the Azerbaijani state. Despite facing various challenges and adversities, it acknowledges Azerbaijan's steadfast commitment to its development path.
PRESENTER’S PROFILE
DR. ELSEVAR SALMANOV currently serves as a Counselor-Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Malaysia. From 2021 to 2023, he held the position of First Secretary-Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Malaysia. Before his diplomatic posting in Malaysia, Dr. Salmanov worked as Second Secretary-First Secretary in the Department of Linguistic Support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 2015 to 2021. In education journey, he obtained a Bachelor of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Istanbul in 2005. Dr. Salmanov earned a Master of International Relations in 2008 under the same department. In 2019, he pursued a PhD in International Relations from the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Gazi, Ankara, Turkey.
