1. Introduction

The purpose of this study is to develop a supervision management system in a workshop or laboratory based on education and environmental research. Author write this paper on purpose as a lecturer in addition to being a supervisor of a Machine Workshop at Politeknik Tun Syed Nasir Syed Ismail (PTSN). This is due to improve and enhance the security and authorities relate to machine accessing and to ensure the safety of the machine and its users. Within this study, which was conducted due to a lack of staff and an unauthorised system at the PTSN workshop, a method was investigated to improve the supervising management, and a technology with Smart Control Switch System (SCSS) was discovered (Moghaddam, 2009).

With the popularity and capability of mobile devices continuing to rise, demand for smart mobile applications in everyday life is increasing. Web Services are an open and interoperable technique for delivering remote access services or allowing applications to communicate with one another (Jabbar & Kawitkar, 2016). SCSS was used widely to control many type of device on smart home control system. Figure 1 indicates one of the uses of SCSS.

In the development of increasingly advanced industrial technology, the country needs many skilled workers and understand the use of sophisticated tools and machines. Therefore, students are the next generation to play an important role towards realizing technology based on advanced machine tools and automation. The technology industry requires a well-trained staff with a diverse skill set and a healthy work culture and ethic. The Ministry of Human Resources hopes to make Malaysia a safe place to work in this effort.

Polytechnics focus strongly on two components of education: theory and practice. In addition to learn information through practical education, learners are expected about safety, tools, and machines, as well as the workplace environment, where each student will be exposed to the hazard of accidents while using various workshop equipment such as hand tools and machines. Safety can be viewed of as a practice or a way of thinking. It will not be developed unless the human individual personally forms it, whether or not man considers it a priority. Safety guidelines in the workshop or workplace should be observed from time to time and to avoid disasters and tragedies, one has to be innovative, cautious and responsible where management play the main roll.

2. Literature Review

Safety is defined as a state free of injury, fear, pain, or loss that necessitates appropriate action on the part of all parties (Muniandi, 2008). Despite efforts, workshop accidents still occur, particularly when carrying out practical work in the workshop. Accidents frequently result in injuries, limb deformities, and the loss of life.

The implications of the industry's development are becoming more sophisticated. The country requires more skilled workers who are well-versed in safety practices. It is possible to improve the reliable and comfortable work culture by emphasising safety. As a consequence, the Chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NOISH), Negara (2012), recommends employers in the country to increase employee exposure to the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program to reduce the risk of workplace-related accidents. Prioritizing the importance of safety is closely related to the individual performing the work, the use of equipment and machinery, the workplace itself, and the general public. Thus, Technical and Vocational Education in Malaysia is in charge of implementing a safe work culture to ensure that safety and health are always guaranteed. Its goal is to prepare students for the workforce by exposing them to the work environment that they will encounter later in their careers (Ministry of Education Malaysia, 2022).

In order to ensure the reduction of fatalities, injuries and illnesses, management must comply with all laws related to the safety and health of workers. There are two Acts that stipulate all organizations in Malaysia to ensure that employees are protected from all risks arising from hazards in the workplace: The Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (FMA 1967) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA 1994). As well as Polytechnic that practice machines in education, workshop coordinators need to be more concerned about the comfort and safety of machine users. Guided by OSHA 1994, it is the duty of every employer and every self- employed person to ensure, as far as practicable, the safety, health and welfare at work of all its employees. That is, the provision of information, instruction, training and supervision as necessary to ensure as far as practicable, the safety and health of its employees who are working.

According to Mohd Nor (2000), polytechnic is one of the educational institutions which produces a semi -skilled workforce especially in the field engineering in various disciplines. To produce professional prospects these high skills in technical training are indispensable. Inside producing highly skilled students on the basis they will more often use workshops for their practical training.

This is for further strengthen the knowledge possessed by students before stepping into nature work. But the safety aspect must be given priority in order to be able to responding to the government's call to produce more skilled manpower technical field.

In order to enhance the safety and security of the workshop area, an idea need to be adopts such as

“Internet of Things close to life and easy to use” as a design concept, and builds a smart system based on the internet of things. The modules included in this design include a getaway board module, a node module, and an APP module (Sisavath, 2021). Current home automation systems are limited by a lack of IoT technology, an unfriendly user interface, a limited wireless transmission range, and high costs (Omran, 2021). This paper describes an affordable, safe and energy-efficient WiFi-based smart system which enables machines to be monitored by workshop supervisor in local and remote locations via mobile phone or computer. Moreover Saxena (2021) emphasize, a Smart Home Security system can be extended as a security system for banks, malls, and other places requiring security.

During machine operation, especially maintenance and repair work - workers are exposed to potential risks associated with the power sources used in the machine. The solution method used for this purpose is, the implementation of the SCSS program. The SCSS requires the user to obtain the permission of the machine supervisor in advance to use the machine. Efficient management of the machine will also lead to a longer lifespan service of the machine. The design of the machine layout that fits the space also is very important to reduce the impact of accidents while operating the machine (Parker et al., 2015). Machines need more efficient and good records management to track or identify eligible users that can operate the machine without hazard or without awareness of safety (Negara, 2012). As the result, very important is to control illegal access or unauthorized use of the machine by a system with smart switch designed (Mohd Musnizam, 2020).

Meanwhile, as a novel accessible media, the two-dimensional bar code or Quick Response (QR) code was introduced. It allows users to quickly enter any web address into their phones using the integrated mega pixel cameras (Chaisatien & Akahori, 2007). Furthermore, during this pandemic

Meanwhile QR codes are adaptable, they can aid learning in a variety of settings. These contexts can include the woods, the gym, and the school grounds, and learning materials can include videos, texts, pictures, and other media (Rikala & Kankaanranta, 2014).

These three management methods which is good machine layout, QR code and SCSS should be able to help while facilitating the work of supervising the machine or workshop, thus reducing and preventing serious accidents from occurring in the machine workshop. Therefore, this management method should be a guide to all polytechnics in Malaysia.

2.1 Problem Statement

The importance of safety in daily life cannot be overstated. Appropriate education should be provided to students in order for the knowledge learned to be absorbed and become their practice at all times and in the future, in order to produce employees who, have healthy and safe work practices. Workshop accident events at high schools and polytechnics demonstrate that students' awareness of the importance of safety in the workshop remains low and cannot be avoid, despite the fact that we are already in the new millennium. Therefore, the purpose of this study was conducted to improve the safety of intrusion of unauthorized use of machines among students and staff at PTSN.

3. Method

This study was conduct through an observation and literature. The primary goal is to develop a system capable of monitoring machine users over long distances in a controlled manner. One of the solutions identified during the evaluation was a QR code system integrated with an Arduino smart control switch. Where QR code is required as an intermediary by students to go to the Google Form platform to register the use of the machine. The purpose of this registration system is to notify the workshop supervisor that someone wishes to use the machine.

SCSS, on the other hand, will allow the workshop supervisor to turn on the machine remotely. The input in Google Form is including; the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the machine, the profile user information, machine number to be use and also agreement to use the machine. After an alert sound on the workshop supervisor device just after a registration fill in by machine user, the machine will remotely turn on through SCSS.

3.1 Smart Control Switch System

In this SSCS program, which uses open source software, and can be configured without physical adaptation to the environment, is developed to minimize energy consumption automatically. The device consists of two parts namely Android Application and a unit consisting of a programmable Arduino board, ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, wall socket and SD card. In SCSS, Android applications are used to control switches remotely using Wi-Fi technology. Tests performed on the system prove its effectiveness and fast response to signals (Zoe66zheng, 2021). The device for this system is shown in Figure 2.

3.1.1 Process Flow

The system of SCSS has been widely used to remotely control electrical appliances, home security systems and even motorized machines (Makhanya et.al., 2019). The program of this system was proposed to use in Machine Workshop, PTSN. Figure 4 depicts the combination system's Process Flow Diagram of the QR code and SCSS.

To adapt the SCSS in lathe machine at PTSN, a device with Adruino based brand Sonoff was identified. All Sonoff smart devices are controllable that can manage the machines connected with SONOFF smart devices in eWeLink app. The machine that can be controlled refer to lathe and milling machine, roller shutter, lights, blinds, heater and so on. The most convenient benefit of App remote control is that, can check the status of the machine and turn on or off them through a single tap on App.

4. Results and Discussion

Analog switches are mounted on the machine. To operate them the user needs to get an authorized from the workshop supervisor through the QR code (Figure 3) with directly link to the Google Form. The machine will be remotely control through mobile phones and laptops. Smart switches already exist in the market today, with so many type and model and come with their own web Apps. The current work makes use of a web App to control the operation of the switches. A cloud server is created for the environment where the switches are mounted. The user communicates with the processor through the Web App. The processor then controls the switches based on the commands received from the user and also updates the user about the status of the switches after the control operation is performed to the cloud and enhances security of the machine (Reddy et.

al.,2016).

The system of SCSS has been widely used to remotely control electrical appliances, home security systems and even motorized machines (Makhanya et.al., 2019). The program of this system was propose to use in Machine Workshop, PTSN.

5. Conclusion

The application that have built in this study applies recent advances in mobile phone technology to learning process. Hopefully by using QR codes and SCSS in this system will allow to achieve the goal of making an easy to use tool which will enhance manageable record for every machine used. However, in this scenario, the supervisor of the workshop need to be alert with the Google Form notification so that not miss out from a registration notification. More functions need to be add and much improvement still has to be study and revise some of the usability aspects of the system to make it more suitable for students and instructors. Although the architecture of the smart system at workshop area described in this paper is built on the most powerful software and hardware technologies available today, it is nevertheless bound by traditional concepts. To ensure that the structure being developed, as well as the technology employed, are scalable and have a longer life cycle, this system must be forward-looking and carefully focus on current technology advances. The proposed system structure in this study introduces more advanced software and hardware technologies and establishes a research path. Great expectation, this research was developed a new opportunity to support a management system in a larger workshop environment.
