Therefore, after looking at this given statistic, we can estimate how many Malaysians choose their food products and are aware of the ingredients in the food and drinks they consume every day. Statistics from the World Health Organization (2010), show that Malaysia was one of the countries with a high percentage of adult obesity and was ranked sixth among Asian countries.

According to BBC News (2011), there are only 9% of the consumers who will read the food nutrition label before choosing the products, 43% of the consumers will look at the free gift of the products, if they find out the free items are attractive, they will choose the products, the remaining percentage of the consumers will look at the price and packaging of the products instead of the content and food ingredients. When the food industry becomes more competitive, every food manufacturer and retailer will start racking their brains to give a nice prospect of the food to attract consumers. However, the safety of the ingredients of the food product is not taken into account.

Citizens are the assets of the nation, their health status is our greatest concern; only people with good health conditions can lead Malaysia to a better future and increase productivity. On the other hand, instant noodles are one of the most common foods consumed by citizens.

METHODOLOGY

Introduction

Research metrology can be defined as a systematic way and organizational process used for collecting data and analyzing data for the purpose of conducting a research. In this chapter, researchers will identify and explain the process and ways of gathering relevant information needs for the research project. This chapter discusses several sections, including methods of data collection, data processing, and data analysis. In this section, a conclusion will also be drawn so that readers can better understand and evaluate the outcome of the study.

The purpose of this research project is to find out the role of legislation and the impact of food safety affecting food manufacturers in Klang Valley.

Research Design ........................................................................ 23-24

  • Historical of Food Safety Law

In this study, qualitative research will be used in determining the role of legislation and the impact of food safety affecting food producers in the Klang Valley. For this method, the researchers will conduct a one to one interview of the expectations in the food safety industry and also the food producers within the Klang Valley. On the other hand, the researchers are also using the historical approach in this research project.

According to Griffiths (2014), the history of food safety legislation first takes place in Europe and the United States. During this period, the plants were enough for people to avoid hunger problems and protection was not important. The first food law is used to regulate the price and weight of food, but the majority is bread and beer.

From the 20th century, the British emphasize dairy products and begin to get The Milk and Dairies Act 1914. The climax happened when they introduced Food Act 1984 and after a few years they made some changes and passed Food Act 1990 through food safety and consumer protection.

Data Collection Methods

  • Primary Data .................................................................. 26-27
  • Target Population
  • Sampling Location ............... Error! Bookmark not defined
  • Sampling Technique
  • Sampling Size

In addition, researchers had conducted interview sessions with academic staff from public universities with whom they had done in-depth research regarding food research. They are able to provide a much more complete area of food safety and how to increase public awareness of food safety. Researchers have also interviewed food manufacturers to see their awareness of food safety and how they practice food safety in their manufacturing plant.

After each interview session, researchers will transcribe interview session into word documents for further use. Secondary data refers to the researchers who used data collected by previous researchers through journal, newspaper article, journals for previous study or other purposes. When compared to primary data, the time required to collect secondary data was relatively less.

However, the information collected in secondary data is not up-to-date and incomplete because the previous study may have been done many years ago. Therefore, in this research project, secondary data is collected by reading printed materials such as magazines and newspapers on food safety issues. Online platforms such as UTAR Online Library (OPAC), WILEY Online Library, Google Scholars and Emerald e-Journal are also used by researchers to get more comprehensive information.

In addition, researcher collected information from different government portal like Ministry of Health (MOH) and so on is also another way to study this research. According to McLoed (2014), it is very difficult for researchers to study every person on earth, therefore target population refers to a population that has certain interests or characteristics that researchers are interested in studying further. Researchers conducted face-to-face interviews with law lecturers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

This research allowed interviews only with respondents with related backgrounds, who are food producers and law lecturers. According to Saunders, Lewis & Thornbill (2009), selecting a sample from a population circle refers to the sampling technique. Face-to-face interviews allowed the researchers to learn the results in real time and interact with the respondents.

Research Instrument

Data Processing

  • Data Checking
  • Data Editing
  • Data Transcribing
  • Data Analysis

The purpose of data editing is to maintain the quality of the data collected, the activities involved in this section were to identify and review uneven and inconsistent data collected from respondents (Statistics Canada, 2018). However, in this research project, all respondents understand the interview questions and are able to express their opinion unequivocally. All feedback and opinions of the respondents were collected and coded into a written document for further study.

After the interview session, the written notes were transcribed into a written document using Microsoft Office Word. After the interview session, researchers will transcribe feedback and opinions of respondents into written document using Microsoft Word.

Conclusion

Do you think the current Food Act 1983 is effective for managing food safety and quality in Malaysia. Can you give any suggestion to the government agency to improve the level of food safety in Malaysia?. In your opinion, at the current stage, is there any adequate and effective food legislation that governs food safety in Malaysia.

From those food cases, the respondents understand that the food safety stalemate is a serious problem in Malaysia. All these food cases are meant to make readers aware of the food safety problem in this country. According to the past researchers, manufacturers play a vital role in ensuring food quality and food safety.

But in today's world, the consumers themselves must also have sufficient knowledge about food safety. In order to bring Malaysia a better tomorrow, all members of society must work together to raise awareness of food safety and improve food quality. Therefore, this research project can serve as a guideline for all parties to improve the food safety in Malaysia.

Respondent: Most food manufacturers only meet the minimum requirements instead of having perfect hygiene. Researchers: Sir/Madam, can you make a suggestion to any government agency to improve food security in Malaysia? Researchers: In your opinion, for the current stage, there is some relevant and effective food legislation to regulate food safety in Malaysia.
