IntroducTon

Currently our healthcare is in transition, leaving many gaps for improvement. There is a significant rise in incidence of chronic diseases; emerging of new and resurgence of old diseases and reform of the health system itself. These lead to escalating  pressure and add burden to health care providers, clinicians, health care managers and policy makers.

Hitherto, new strategies, approaches and instruments have been implemented and the clinical pathway (CP) is emerging in popularity and significance. CP had been introduced in hospitals, clinics and institutions to overcome the issues of quality; while enhancing efficiency of care and controlling cost in the healthcare system.

Clinical pathways (CPs) are written protocols based on evidence--informed guidelines, which describe integrated care strategies for selected conditions and serve as a basis for budgeting case--based payments, guiding and educating healthcare professionals and monitoring the quality and cost of care.

This workshop will provide introduction to concepts of CP, its' development and evaluation in our health care industry. The strengths of CP implementations and usage in clinical care will be emphasized to demonstrate its' relevance to quality   and also for cost containment measures in the industry.
