KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) offers scholarship to young Veveonah Mosibin whose video has gone viral showing her taking an online examination in a tree where the internet reception is stable.

The varsity vice chancellor Datuk Professor Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin said the 18-year-old spunky student was bright and proactive in pursuing her foundation programme with UMS.

"UMS is gladly offering a scholarship to Veveonah Mosibin who will complete her basic science programme and further her studies for a bachelor's degree with the varsity.

"Hopefully, Veveonah will excel in her studies," he said in his Facebook posting.

The lass from Kampung Sapatalang in Pitas, about three hours from here, became an internet sensation when her 11- minute video dubbed as "24 Hours on Tree" went viral for having to camp on a tree to get internet connection for online examination.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had followed up and pledged to improve internet connection in the area by having a telecommunications tower by mid of next year.

Veveonah's story had also caught the attention of those from the state palace.

The wife of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Toh Puan Norlidah Jasni, who is also the adviser of Yayasan Nur Jauhar presented donations to Veveonah at the state palace yesterday.

Veveonah, who aspires to be a teacher, thanked the authorities and foundation for the assistance which she described would spur her to strive for excellence in education.

Bernama also reported that her parents, who are farmers, had encouraged her to improve their livelihoods through education.
