UMS' publication wins Book Award

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) added another feather to its cap when a book published by UMS Publication won the National Book Award 2012.

The head of UMS Publication, Professor Dr Syed 'Azizi Wafa Syed Khalid Wafa, said, "we are proud of the achievement and this spurs us to publish more books of quality in the future as part of our contribution to society of sharing knowledge."

UMS won the award in 'The Best Luxurious Book' category for its latest publication entitled 'The Town Gown Parade In Kota Kinabalu City'.

Syed Azizi Wafa and the book's author, associate professor Dr Mahmud Hj Sudin received the award from Higher Education Minister Dato' Seri Mohamed Khalid Nordin during the International Book Conference and the National Book Award

recently.

The events which were collaboratively ,organised by j:he National Book Development Foundation, The Oxford Centre for Excellence based in United Kingdom and several other agencies were held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur on February 21.

'The Town Gown Parade In Kota Kinabalu City' depicts the significance of establishing good relationship between the local society and the citizens of the campus, said Syed Azizi Wafa.

UMS is the first university in the country to hold the annual town and gown parade in the heart of the city centre to coincide with its convocation day since 2007.

'Meanwhile, Mahmud who is , dean of the School of Sustainable Agriculture at UMS Sandakan, said the book contains mind transformation elements to boost society's moral.
