ABSTRACT

In Indonesia, many people do not understand how to reduce the amount of trash with the right step, so it can increase the number of trash meanwhile the hole for absorption of the water is still limited, which can increase the potential of a flood. Besides that, many people do not care about trash. Based on the data of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the composition of trash was dominated by organic waste has reached 60 % of the total trash. Using organic waste to compost is one alternative preparation of organic waste. The research was conducted on a garden using some experimental tools.

The results showed the compost from the biopore that has hanged loosely for about 3 weeks and it produced hummus that was useful to fertilize the land. Inside the hole of biopore, the trash that has been used is the organic waste is the leaf, kitchen waste, that is the waste that can solve with the land. Because of that the method of biopore is very useful for our life.

INTRODUCTION

One of the biggest problems in the world is trash. Because trash is inseparable part from human daily life. Organic waste is one kind of trash that is dominating, so it rose the trash percentage in the world. As the young generation we have to contribute in handling this problem. According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation, 1.3 billion tons of edible food-equivalent to a third of global production-of food wasted annually by the world, which is enough to feed 3 billion people.

Because of that, we initiated to turn trash that can be used as compost which is called the biopore method. Biopore is one of artificial water infiltration techniques on shallow surface. Not only that, biopore also can be used as water infiltration. But, in this experiment we only focus to producing compost to fertilize our school. This biopore can be used as the alternative to replace chemical compost that has bad effect on the environment.

MATERIALS AND METHODS/METHODOLOGY

Materials and Tools

Left over vegetables, Plants ( Syzygium oleina/pucuk merah), PVC Pipe, Pipe Lid, Crowbar, Stationaries, Stick

Method of Producing

Choose soggy land, then drill the land with crowbar with depth of 45 cm and diameter 11-12 cm. Insert the PVC pipe and make sure it fits perfectly. Fill the hole with organic waste such as kitchen waste. Don’t fill the hole until full, at least half of the biopore, because if it is too much the process will take longer. Close the pipe with pipe lid and

wait for around a month. Fill the biopore about 2-3 times a week. When the organic waste has hang loosely, take it out and put it on a plant with stick. Don’t forget to always water it.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

In this observation we had made a hole that has length of 45 cm and diameter of 11- 12 cm we did this observation for about 2 months, with 3 weeks for hang loosely, a week for the result of biopore to be compose for and 3 weeks for fertilize plants. This biopore hole is located next to the school monument. When the organic waste has hang loosely perfectly, like combine with dirt. It was like plant that has hang loosely the result of the compose has weight of 540 gram.

Observation

a) Result of plants without fertilizer b) Result of plants with fertilizer Figure 1 Plant growth a) without and b) with fertilizer against week

According to the result that has been shown (Figure 1), we can see that there is gradient difference in the result of plants growth from the graphic. This gradient difference, shows a different in the acceleration of the growth. It is given gradient on the first graphic is 𝜃1= 2.7 𝑐𝑚/𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑘 and gradien on the second graphic is 𝜃2= 5.0 𝑐𝑚/𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑘.

CONCLUSION

It is concluded that biopore is one of strategies effort to minimize food waste the way is by inserting the food waste inside the biopore hole. The compost from the biopore that has hanged loosely for about 3 weeks and it produced hummus that was useful to fertilize the land. Inside the hole of biopore, When it is done we can use it to fertilize the plants in our Boarding School.
