Doctor of Ministry Timeline

Ministry Research Project (MRP)

Ministry Research Project (MRP) consists of independent research and writing in the student's ministry context, in collaboration with the D.Min. To confirm the student's ability to identify a specific theological topic in ministry, organize an effective research model, use appropriate resources and evaluate the results;. To evaluate the student's ability to address a relevant ministry issue with meaningful theological reflection and improved leadership skills and at the same time make a constructive contribution to the quality of ministry in the area; and.

Immediately after the completion of the fourth seminar course, the student will be automatically enrolled in RE936 (MRP) and then in RE937 (MRP) with the expectation that the major part of the MRP will be carried out in a period of twelve to fifteen months (this may coincide with work done for elective credits). Guidance for the development of the project will be provided by the student's assigned mentor and the D.Min. The project will be considered approved and field research may only begin after both the MRP Topic Prospectus and the MRP proposal have been approved by the student's Mentor and Proposal Defense Committee (the first four members of the APNTS . Committee).

The resulting project and writing must be of a type and quality that will be replicated in the student's service.

Research Process

Any other reference to a committee in this document refers in whole or in part to one of these two committees and is explained within each context. The student will also orally present the completed Ministry Research Project at an APNTS Ministry Research Symposium for review and evaluation by seminary faculty, the student APNTS Committee, the student Ministry Participation Committee, guests, and other Doctoral candidates of the Ministry. After a successful defense and approval of any required revisions, the final written document will be added to the Sue Fox Library at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary.

The research is carried out according to methodologies that are in line with the practice of the ministry's management. When choosing the focus and research process, the student must take into account the current practice of his ministry. Depending on the timeframe of the research assignment, the student should plan to complete the project within 12-15 months after the last seminar and/or completed elective.

APNTS Project Personnel

Min. Program Director

The mentor will be responsible for recommending the MRP proposal to the student committee and the final MRP for submission to the Program Director or Academic Dean for presentation at the symposium. During the actual research and analysis, the mentor will work with the student. Mentors will be responsible for approving the MRP proposal, which will be recommended to the four core members of the APNTS Student Committee for its advocacy.

The panel is defined in the Symposium's discussion later as the student's APNTS committee and the chairman of the Ministry's Participation. Interactions with the mentor are intended to clarify and give direction to the student's work, not to replace the mentor's expertise with the student's. They will also be the reader and approver of the student's final written copy of the Ministry's research project.

The lead faculty member will attend the Symposium Presentation and serve as part of the panel to ask questions and provide feedback following the student's presentation. Serving on the student Symposium panel, where they will be part of the team to ask relevant questions and provide helpful feedback to the student. The second additional member will be invited to attend the student's presentation and defense at the Symposium and provide feedback as part of the panel.

Steps for Research Project

Approval of copies of the MRP proposal, the first full draft of the final project, the Symposium version and the final library edition of the Ministry's Research Paper. The student will defend the Proposal with his or her APNTS committee (minus the Second Additional Member) before the start of the fourth and final core seminar. After successful defense and approval of the MRP proposal and its revisions—Students will be formally accepted as a Candidate for the D.Min.

The program director will communicate to the mentor and student the approval of the symposium version of the MRP document. As part of the symposium, a panel, consisting of the student's APNTS committee and the chairman of the Ministry's Participation Committee, asks the student questions and provides feedback. By April 1 of the year of presentation at the Ministry Research Symposium - if MRP has been successfully defended at the Symposium and any required revisions have been approved by the mentor, the student will submit the required number of copies and the Ministry's final library edition.

By the Saturday before the start - if the Library's edition of the submitted Ministry Research Paper is approved by D.Min.

MRP Document Chapters

Final MRP Document Standards

The student will also be charged for the additional cost of binding the personal copies. Write according to the standards in the latest edition of the Turabian Style Guide. http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/turabian/manual) using "Footnotes-Bibliography Style" for all citations.

The templates for the Pastoral Research Document's title and signature pages can be provided by the Registrar's Office. All copies must be generated with a laser printer or a photocopier with the print function (do not make photocopies of an original). The sheets (pages) of the copies must not have binding holes or other alterations.

The decision/recommendations of the Academic Dean and Registrar's Office are final, subject to appeal to the APNTS Faculty via the D.Min.

Options for Electives

Use of Turabian-style parenthetical citation option in this program requires special permission (see section E on Research Writing). The original typescript must be clear on one side only of 8.5 x 11 inch irregular white 20 lb.

Min. Electives Proposal Form

No part of the work referred to in the Department's research project has been submitted in support of an application for another degree or qualification from this or any other university or other educational institution. The words of a quote or idea in your paper will be followed by a number written in a superscript (meaning it is smaller and placed slightly higher than the surrounding text). The same number will appear at the bottom of the page (not in superscript, but in regular font), followed by the source.

It is interesting to note that "a large majority of the first students of the Sam Houston Normal Institute were state or scholarship students."2. Place your cursor at the end of the sentence where you want the superscript number for the footnote. Microsoft Word will automatically add a superscript number at the end of the sentence and create a matching footnote area at the bottom of the page.

Future footnotes will be abbreviated, usually with only the author's last name, a shortened version of the title, and the page number referenced. Chicago style, create a bibliography with all your sources at the end of the article. If there is no author, use the first word of the title to alphabetize the citation; ignore a, an or the at the beginning of a title.
