GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 4:31-37) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath; and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice, "Ah! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God." But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. And they were all amazed and said to one another, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out." And reports of him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

REFLECTION:

The Lord Jesus speaks his life-giving Word to us each and every day so that we may walk in the freedom of his love and truth. If we approach the Word of God with meekness and humility, and with an eagerness to do everything the Lord desires, we are in a much better position to learn what God wants to teach us through his word. Are you ready to follow the Lord Jesus and to conform your life according to his word?

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, may I never doubt your saving love and mercy, and the power of your word to bring healing, restoration, and freedom from every sin and oppression. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertude

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

From the Office for Inclusive Education For PEACE Month Celebration

2019 Theme: “Climate Action for Peace”

The theme draws attention to the importance of combatting climate change as a way to protect and promote peace throughout the world.

Climate change causes clear threats to international peace and security. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts, forcing millions to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The salinization of water and crops is endangering food security, and the impact on public health is escalating. The growing tensions over resources and mass movements of people are affecting every country on every continent. (To be continued)

Source: https://www.un.org/en/events/peaceday/

Guide Questions:

• What do you think is the most threatening natural disaster the country is facing now? Explain.

• What preventive measures can you suggest to address this concern?

FROM THE HRDO – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Cont….. Preventing Obesity Children and teens

Young people generally become overweight or obese because of poor eating habits and lack of physical activity. Genetics and lifestyle also contribute to a child's weight status.

Recommendations for prevention of overweight and obesity during childhood and teens include:

Gradually work to change family eating habits and activity levels rather than focusing on a child's weight.

Be a role model. Parents who eat healthy foods and participate in physical activity set an example so that a child is more likely to do the same.

Encourage physical activity. Children should have 60 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week. More than 60 minutes of activity may promote weight loss and provide weight maintenance.

Reduce "screen" time in front of the television and computer to less than 1 to 2 hours daily.

Encourage children to eat only when hungry and to eat slowly.

Don't use food as a reward or withhold food as a punishment.

Keep the refrigerator stocked with fat-free or low-fat milk, fresh fruit, and vegetables instead of soft drinks and snacks high in sugar and fat.

Serve at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

Encourage children to drink water rather than beverages with added sugar. These include soft drinks, sports drinks, and fruit juice drinks.
