GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY Lk. 6: 20-26) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke,

Jesus raised his eyes toward his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you and denounce your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man.

Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.

But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.”

Reflections:

Today’s gospel consists of the eight beatitudes when Jesus tells his disciples that the poor, the outcast, and the marginalized are blessed for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The Lord favors those who do not seek wealth and life in earthly things but acknowledge their own poverty and come to him to seek real life. Such a person may expect fullness of spiritual life and joy.

Prayer:

Let us pray…

Lord, bless us for what we have and be contented with what we may possess. Be our stronghold when we are oppressed and in times of distress as we cherish your Holy name, Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle……….. Pray for us.

Live Jesus in our Hearts…Forever!

“Daily Meal with God”

1. The Command of Christ.

Why should we keep the Sabbath holy by going to Mass? The Mass was instituted at the Last Supper by Jesus before his Crucifixion. The Last Supper was the first Mass.

When the hour came, He [Jesus] took his place at the table with the apostles . . . Then He took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you. Do this in memory of me" (Luke 22:14,19).

When we celebrate the Mass, we repeat the Last Supper, as Jesus commanded us to do. In doing this, we remember and re-present his great act of love for us on the Cross taking our sins upon himself so that we, if we follow his commandments, can live with him forever in heaven.

Obesity Prevention and Awareness Week Child Obesity in the Philippines

Obesity or being overweight has grown in the last couple of decades into alarming levels especially with the prevalence of junk food and fast food across the world. Obesity worsens as it is also afflicting children at very young ages making them more at risk with diseases related to obesity such as hypertension, cardiac arrest and even psychological depression.

In the Philippines, obesity is also fast becoming a problem with the introduction and prevalence of junk consumer goods. Child obesity in the Philippines is not just a matter of nutritional problem but is also a cultural issue. For one, the older generation of Filipinos has the penchant of indulging their babies and kids with food to be healthy. There is a prevailing misconception among older generation Filipinos that a chubby child is cute and healthy. This is also further reinforced by the inclination of parents to indulge their children with food and material things that they were deprived when they were young. Thus, Filipino parents tend to give everything that their children want unconscious that they are actually putting their children at risk.
