GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk 10:1-12) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

Jesus appointed a further seventy-two and sent them in pairs before him to every town and place he intended to visit.

He said to them: “The harvest is rich but the workers are few; therefore ask the harvest-master to send workers in his harvest. Be on your way, and remember: I am sending you as lambs in the midst of wolves. Do not carry a walking staff or traveling bag; wear no sandals and great no one along the way. On entering any house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If there is a peaceable man there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the one house eating and drinking what they have, for the laborer is worth his wage. Do not move from house to house.

“Into whatever city you go, after they welcome you, eat what they set before you, and cure the sick there. Say to them, ‘The reign of God is at hand.’ If the people of any town you enter do not welcome you, go into its streets and say,

‘We shake the dust of this town from our feet as testimony against you. But know that the reign of God is near.’ I assure you, on that day the fate of Sodom will be less severe than that of such a town.”

Come Holy Spirit, take possession of our hearts and so guide our actions that we may be able to say that they are the work of your hands rather than ours and that our whole being in each of its functions is entirely dependent on your good pleasure.

Happy are they who live and act only by the Spirit of God for it is no longer they who live but Jesus Christ through his Holy Spirit, who lives in them.

Amen.

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

National Mental Health Week The Importance of Mental Health

Mental health is defined by the World Health Organization as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. Therefore, if you don’t have a healthy mental state it will be hard for you to live your life to the fullest extent.

What Is Mental Health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:

Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry

Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse

(5)

Family history of mental health problems

Mental health problems are common but help is available. People with mental health problems can get better and many recover completely.
