HERSTORY: Ang Buhay at Pakikibaka ni

Nenita "Nanette" Miranda Tampico

Lisa Marie J. Clemente

COOPERATIVE ORGANIZING

Empowering Administrative Workers

Case Studies of Successful Coops in Academic Units of the

Future plans for the coop include opening its membership to college faculty as associate members. The study shows that cooperative organization can be a tool to empower the administrative staff at the University of the Philippines. As stated in the Cooperative Code of the Philippines (RA 6938), Philippine cooperatives follow a basic organizational structure.

Note that in both cases, members of the board of directors perform duties in the operation of the cage. In the two case studies, college officials support the workers' efforts. This facilitates accountability and fosters pride in ownership as they are allowed to become associate members of the cooperative.

Human College -·• The cohesion of the members to continue the operation of the cooperative Kinetics despite the many problems that they. Cooperative members must be committed and actively participate in the management of the cooperative.

WOMEN TAKING CENTER STAGE

Organizing Women Through Community Theater

Barrameda

Sixty-two percent of the population in Baler is engaged in agriculture, which dominates its economy. She wants to be in the workshop to re-enact her life in prison, as a way to exorcise the ghost of the past and come to terms with her life now. The performance explored and tackled a major concern or issue of the community, i.e. environmental destruction due to rampant illegal logging in Aurora.

Faced with the mass of material collected, the group organizes the materials to create a performance form. As a child, I lived in an inland landscape, so I ended up being fascinated by the view of the sea. Women weave their dreams together and celebrate life's small victories in a supportive group setting.

These guidelines were drawn up during the early stage of group formation. and then, regularly reviewed for modification and adjustment. Confirmation circle: the final part of the meeting that serves as a conclusion in the form of a group massage, a pat on the back, or a standing ovation for everyone.

IMPORTANT ISSUES IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

Challenge to Unionism

Thelma B. Magcuro

Options that may not be options at all

There are two options for affected public sector workers; 1) for transfer to another agency or 2) for retirement or voluntary resignation. The first option is quite questionable if RP will be implemented in all state bodies except the army, police, education and health. This means that transfer opportunities are very limited due to few job openings and the difficulty of matching skills.

Therefore, there is no assurance that a potential transferee will be accommodated in his/her target agency. Option 2, it seems, may be a better option because if a government employee decides to retire or resign voluntarily, he/she will receive compensation and benefits that can all be converted into cash. . However, with the current state of the Philippine economy, it would be very difficult for a retired government employee to keep his/her money as it can be eaten up by the cost of daily living.

If he/she decides to undertake entrepreneurial initiatives, he/she may not be able to compete with other companies due to limited capital, or he/she may not be able to cope with the impact of an ever-changing business climate in the country.

Assistance Programs which are short-lived

Numerous livelihood programs have been implemented in the past twenty years by various agencies in various industries. Sufficient capital, the right skills, good support programs, especially in the area of marketing, the right technology and a supportive environment are very important. Credit assistance may be sought from institutions offering such support, but this would entail financial obligations of the borrowers in terms of paying the principal and interest thereof.

In addition, loan applications also involve a lot of paperwork and require additional resources in terms of time and money to follow up. Employment assistance will certainly help to secure alternative work, but there may be age restrictions as private companies set age limits. From 1999 to 2004, it is estimated that more than 50,000 Filipino nurses left the country to work in hospitals, nursing homes, and other rehabilitation facilities in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

This exodus of Filipinos to other countries deprives the Philippines of skilled and competent workers, especially in the areas of basic social services such as health and education. In a recent study by the Philippine Hospital Association, over 1,000 tertiary and secondary hospitals have already closed due to lack of staff.

Brain drain in the country

These schemes contributed greatly to the country's problems of underemployment and unemployment, which were pegged at 20.5% and 7.7%. Many of our nurses and other medical related courses graduates have gone overseas for better job opportunities. This is a big cause for concern, especially in a country like the Philippines where health services are already very challenged.

Such a trend results in the de-skilling of the country's human resources, while depleting the economy of highly qualified workers and professionals." the one who went abroad and the one who stayed in the country.

A Special Feature

Writing for a

Refereed Journal

Josefina M. Rolle

The university's recognition of REPS as an academic sector obliged them to comply with the publication requirement applicable to faculty members. First, with new findings and the results of the conducted research, it expands the scope of knowledge of both the writer and the readers. The information included in this document is based on written material on the subject and experiential reports of the publication process of the Research and Development Extension Office (REDO), the publishing arm of the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD). .

This occurs when the writer suggests potential referees for their articles at the editor's request. Depending on the perspective of the editor and referees, a rejected article may still be published (Calfee and Valencia, n.d.; CITE, 2004). However, the judges may have found some positive qualities of the paper that deserve a chance to be published.

However, this will still require review of key areas of the paper, while conscientiously and thoroughly addressing the referees' comments (Calfee and Valencia, n.d.; CITE, 2004). Under the close supervision of the editor, the final print copy must have a neat and clear layout without misspelled words and.

2± 2 Submission of

The following is a description of the processes CSWCD went through in producing the CSWCD Development Log. It presented social development research done by faculty members. Meanwhile, the College Executive Board (CEB), consisting of the Dean, College Secretary, Department Chairs and CIF Office Heads, serves as the editorial board of CSWCD publications.

It is noted that the CSWCD holds the copyright for all publications of any department/unit or office of the College. An example of the referee form used by the CSWCD is shown in the Appendix. After that, the original manuscript is returned to the editor with the corresponding comments and corrections together with the completed referee form containing the evaluation of the referees.

Some journals go into great detail which, if not followed, can adversely affect the reviewer's assessment of the manuscript even before it is read. Depending on the opinion of the editor and referees, a rejected article may still be published (Tackett, n.d.).
