X. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES SECTOR
A. ICT INNOVATIONS
Call Rationale
Information and communication technologies (ICT) are key enablers of innovation and encompass a broader array of activities. The overall strategies outlined in this roadmap are fundamentals in attaining the Networked Society. The key technology trends or R&D solutions that will stimulate innovations within the ICT industry in the coming years will create new value streams for consumers, government, industry and society. A technology-enabled ecosystem made possible through a universal, horizontal and multipurpose communications platform.
The R&D technologies in ICT Innovations combined with the next generation of networks such as 5G provide support to IoT, creation of cyber driver dynamic content, retrieval and analysis, among other applications.
5G is a revolutionary technology envisioned that will eliminate the bounds of access, bandwidth, performance, and latency limitations on connectivity worldwide. 5G has the potential to enable fundamentally new applications, industries, and business models and dramatically improve quality of life around the world via unprecedented use cases that require high data-rate instantaneous communications, low latency, and massive connectivity for new applications for mobile, eHealth, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart homes, and the IoT (https://futurenetworks.ieee.org/).
Call Objective
The proposal should be aligned with the following priority areas:
• 5G/6G Technology and its applications that will help address pressing national concerns / issues
• Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)
• 5G new radio (NR) air interface
• Bandwidth technologies (sub-6 GHz and mmWave)
Call Requirements:
To ensure that the output of the project will be adopted, a letter of commitment should be secured from the target beneficiary. Technology pathway will likewise be required.
PCIEERD will fund at most 5 projects with funding not to exceed 7 M per project per year depending on the scope of work being proposed.
