mpowered ‘Juanas’ can make a positive impact on their respective fields in many ways. Here’s how they can do so effectively.
E
Start with your family. This is unpaid work but sharing the care denotes your role as a mother, wife, or daughter to your loved ones.Commit to a good cause in your community, your circle of friends, or the workplace. It could be on gender equality or helping prevent violence against women and children. This is a collective action that can be effective with the help of social media outlets.
2
Women empowerment means rejecting exaggerated patriotism or chauvinism and acts of harassment against women. Don’t be afraid to challenge any improper behavior, especially in public and the place of work. However, politely do this. Question (again respectfully) any conventional ideas about gender like “women should know their role and place in society.” Don’t be afraid to speak up if you witness an incident of harassment.
2
Regardless of your profession or role, see to it that you convey a strong desire to excel and succeed. For instance, do not hesitate to target a promotion if you are qualified for this advancement.
2
Finally, respect the opinions, decisions, and choices of other people. If you feel uncomfortable, pay attention to their line of reasoning. Understand not only your situation but those of other people.
Women empowerment in the Philippines still needs a boost. This will call for a collaborative effort among the government, different sectors, and most of all – the ordinary Juanas. Yet, it can be done if only there is a commitment to achieve this goal.

JUANA:
HOW WOMEN CAN MAKE AN
IMPACT
“I will challenge gender inequality and gender discrimination through engaging both men and women in fields that many think are dominated by men, such as the field of media particularly the job of a Photographer and Videographer.”
Prince Caraig,
Alumnus/Multimedia Artist
“Give equality in love.”
Nizer Divina, Lasallian Partner
“I will challenge to encourage interaction so they can build friendships, empathy for all, and a sense of community no matter what gender you have.”
Julian Miguel R. Macpherson, Grade 6 Student
“By being able to speak up for myself and those in need, I challenge gender stereotypes.
It is normal for men to make a decision about something, but when women make a decision, people tend to wonder why.
Females are only shown to be happy in our society if they have their own family. As a female student, I believe that gender stereotypes should be eliminated so that we can live in a world free of bias.”
Riane Caylen M. Catimbang, Grade 11 Student
