For him, politicians are not just practitioners of the art of politics, but its creators. The politics of the Federation of Nigeria is of several episodes dating back to the administration of Lord Frederick Lugard. The Council of Ministers of the National Government met and assessed the problems facing the government.

This was formally done on the same day by the Acting President of the Republic, Dr. Nwafor Orizu. The government of the Republic of Nigeria was then handed over to Major General Johnson Thomas Umunakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi. On the other hand, a unit's ORFP is the percentage of the total of the occurrences of all units represented by all occurrences of that particular unit in the texts (all the speakers).

This was calculated using the formula: of all occurrences of the units x 100 Total number of all occurrences in the text. However, the tables showing the analysis of the entire text were presented after the sentences. Also the item "Constitution of the Federation" clause (a) of. 3rd sentence is a synonym for the point "authority".

As a result, there was violent protest in every corner of the northern part of the country.

On the other hand, the coup was interpreted as a nationalist effort by the nationalist army to end the country's instability. On July 28, 1966, General Aguiyi - Ironsi was in Ibadan to open the Conference of the Natural Rulers. During this period, violent protests and riots broke out in Ibadan, Abeokuta and Ikeja units of the Nigerian Army.

Then there is the direct repetition of the noun unit - "unfortunate incident" in 2, which appears once in 1. The two lexical links between sentences 2 and 3 are the repetitions of the noun unit - "unfortunate event" in 3, and of repeated as -; unfortunate action‟ in 3. There is also an instance of the article – “national calamity‟ in 3 which functions as a synonym for “sad and unfortunate incident” in 2.

The numbers at the end of the device columns represent the total instances of ties used in the speech. The number at the end of each of the device columns represents the total occurrences of each of the ties occurring in the entire speech. However, a table showing the overall ties obtained from the analysis is given at the end of the analysis.

A table below showing the types and locations of the remote ties between sentences in this Text III: General Yakubu Gowon's Maiden Speech. Text of First Broadcast to the Nation by His Excellency Brigadier Murtala Mohammed, Head of the Federal Military Government, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on Wednesday, July 30, 1975. In this section, an analysis of the data obtained from the maiden speech of Brigadier General Murtala Muhammed, delivered to the nation on July 28, 1975, on assuming office as head of state.

This speech marked the beginning of the third Military rule in Nigeria's political history. Furthermore, General Gowon was accused of indecisiveness, indiscipline and negligence to the extent that the general population became disillusioned and disillusioned. These initial sentences of this speech are connected through the link of hyponymy as the lexical unit - ‟situation‟ in 2, is functionally used here as an overlapping voice to the noun unit - "Events of the last years".

This is realized from the use of the object - "the thought of further bloodshed" in 3, as the hyponym of the object. And this is a binding of synonymy realized from the item - "became" in 5, being used as a synonym of the item - "changes".

Explanation of the Summary Table of the Immediate Ties Above

We have tried to discover, in this study, the inherent lexical features in the coup speeches of General Aguiyi Ironsi, General Yakubu Gowon and General Murtala Muhammed. We also tried to discover the contextual functions of these lexical features in speeches. In this process, we identified the various lexical devices used in the texts and grouped them into five classes: repetition, synonymy, hyponym, conjunction and antonymy.

The analysis showed that they rely heavily on the lexical means of synonyms and repetition in their speeches. This indicates that all the sentences in the speech were more associated with these lexical devices. It was also revealed in various tables that the repetition device was the most used in Ironsi's speech, for example, it had the highest ORFP of 67.14% in Aguiyi Ironsi's speech.

Therefore, the lexical means of repetition has been widely explored in speeches, which offers the possibility of using the right and appropriate register or lexemes of military-political orientation to convey infallible instructions, coercion to the governed. In addition, this device: repetition in speeches, which appeared most often in Aguiyi and Murtala's enhanced compactness, is cohesion - espirit de corps, which reflected the political ideology of the speaker. This allowed the speeches to be perfectly connected and coherent, like the coherence and compactness of a military institution.

As reflected in the tables above, it was synonymous with repetition in Aguiyi's speech, while it enjoyed highest in Gowon's and Murtala's speeches. This device received a low rating because it had a low percentage of frequency in the tables, especially Aguiyi's. This may have been the reason for the sparing use of the concept of hyponym related to the specific.

This is again in line with the coercive nature of military rulers in Nigeria. In the same vein, military administrators, the study revealed, were less appreciative of the use of the antonymic device. On the other hand, collocation, although it is reflected in speeches, only provided us with lexical units of military-political collocations, such as

Military Government Authority” thus reflecting the rulers' milito-political ideology as it helped further project the coercion and power of the military rulers. This is because they know the power, potency and effectiveness of using these linguistic tools in political discourse.
