Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effects of music together
with
hand nurssage in old peoplewith
hypertension. Specifically,it
examined whether this interventionwill
decrease systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and levelof
anxiety. The sfudy used a nonequivalent controlgoup
designwith
intervention group(n:17)
and control group(n:17).
The seniors in the intervention group were made to listen to musicfor
a single 30-minute sessionin
their own homes,while
being massaged 15 minutes in each hand. The State-TraitAnxiety
Inventory (STAD was used to measure the levelof
anxiety. The heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure were also measured during the pretest and posttest. There was a reduction in
all

household populationin
2010 are seniors (60 and above),from
6% in 2000 (Philippine StatisticsAuthority, 2012).It
is projected that at least 10% of the population in 2050 are elderly.Aging
is associatedwith
health issues/problems such as hypertension, which is a serious health problemworldwide.
