PHC JOINS NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK 2019 CELEBRATION
The Department of Health (DOH) was in the forefront of the annual celebration of NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK (NHW) on August 5-9, 2019, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 181, s. 1993.
This year’s theme, “UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE ISAKATUPARAN:
PAGKAKAISA’T PAGTUTULUNGAN NG OSPITAL AT KOMUNIDAD KAILANGAN”
emphasized the important role of the government hospitals in the delivery of equitable health services to the community and the entire nation. Hosting this year’s celebration was the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI).
In support of this endeavor, the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) actively participated in the following activities during the NHW 2019 celebration:
August 5, 2019 - The NHW 2019 OPENING CEREMONY was held at the NKTI compound. The first part was a Thanksgiving Mass concelebrated by the Chaplains of the four (4) Specialty Centers (NKTI, Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, and PHC) to give thanks for all the blessings received by the DOH hospitals.
All participating hospitals joined the Unity Walk after the Mass, a symbolic act to renew the hospitals’ commitment to serve the sick.
The much awaited Presentation of the Mr. & Ms. Health candidates brought in the happy vibe as the participating hospitals cheered for their representatives. The PHC official candidates were: Mr. Kevin Bryce F. Fetalvero, Nurse III of the Emergency Room, and Ms. Ericha O. Regalado, Administrative Assistant I of the Administrative Services Department.
The NKTI, NHW 2019 host hospital, led the opening of the Hospital Week Exhibit with Dr. Rose Marie O. Rosete-Liquete, NKTI Executive Director. She was joined by Dr. Ranulfo B. Javelosa, Jr., Head of the Preventive Cardiology Division and Co-Chairman of the Employees’ Wellness Committee, officially representing Dr. Joel M.
Abanilla, Executive Director of the Philippine Heart Center, the designated NHW 2020 host hospital.
The announcement of the Winners of the Doodle Drawing Contest was also part of the opening programme. The winning entries clearly conveyed the theme of the contest which is “UNIVERSAL HEALTH ISAKATUPARAN…PAGKAKAISA’T PAGTUTULUNGAN NG OSPITAL AT KOMUNIDAD KAILANGAN”! The on-the-spot drawing contest was held earlier on July 19 at the Atrium of NKTI. All entries were then displayed at the NKTI lobby.
Ms. Rozel DR. Tumaneng, Nurse I of Ward 3E, was the PHC representative to the Doodle Drawing Contest.
August 6, 2019 – Bringing health and wellness to the other areas of the metropolis and in consonance with the NHW Theme on Universal Health Care, the HEALTH PROMOTION AND FREE CLINIC program reaches out to more patients who will be given free medical services. The PHC was part of the Specialty Center Cluster with the NKTI, Philippine Children’s and Medical Center, and Lung Center of the Philippines.
The PHC provided cardiovascular healthcare services - free consultation for 64 patients who availed of the free ECG diagnostic test.
August 7, 2019 – Once again, the PHC Children’s Heart Foundation Grand Auditorium was the venue for the PRE-PAGEANT COMPETITION of the National Hospital Week.
This year’s Mr. & Ms. Health 2019 competition became bigger and more exciting than the previous ones. The Pre-Pageant competition showcased the impeccable talents of the all the candidates from the nineteen (19) participating hospitals. In addition, the nerve-wracking advocacy speech showcased the candidate’s wit and eloquence as each delivered her/his platform and expressed her/his views on significant, popular, and even controversial issues.
August 8, 2019 – The SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FORUM with two (2) categories of research papers - Scientific Research on Public Health Programs or Services and Hospital Operations and Management - was held at the Dr. Enrique T. Ona Auditorium of NKTI. All the research papers were submitted early on and subjected to pre-judging/selection. It was only then that the best three (3) research papers per category were selected and were given the opportunity to present.
The two (2) entries of the PHC from the Nursing Services won the 1st and 2nd places for the Hospital Operations and Management category. The big winners were:
1st Place: FOSTERS (Follow-up, Sms/TExt Reminder System: Nurse-lead Innovation to Strengthen Adherence to Out Patient Follow-up Visit) by Mary Rose I. Piedad, Head Nurse of the Adult Female Service Ward.

The MR. & MS. HEALTH 2019 Coronation Night at the Cuneta Astrodome, was by far the grandest and most anticipated pageant in the NHW celebration history. The PHC best bets, Kevin Bryce Fetalvero and Ericha Regalado, battled it out with the other candidates, making it to the Top 5 in their respective categories. Both PHC candidates emerged victorious: Bryce was recognized as Mr. Photogenic and Mr. Health 3rd Runner-Up, and equally bringing honor to the institution was Ericha being awarded the Ms. Health 2nd Runner-Up title.
