There are two types of Research Scholarships offered by STRIDE:
• The PhD “sandwich” Scholarship provides financial support for doctoral students to conduct their dissertation research at a US University after they have completed their coursework in the Philippines. Scholars may enrol for dissertation credits at the host U.S. University (if required), and the dissertation research will be supervised by a U.S. University Professor. After successful completion of the research, scholars are expected to return to the Philippines to defend their dissertation and the PhD degree will be awarded by a Philippine University.
• The Postdoctoral Scholarship provides financial support for Filipino PhD degree holders who are affiliated with a Philippine University to spend 6-12 months conducting research and auditing courses under the supervision of a U.S. Professor. A STRIDE Postdoctoral Scholarship is intended to deepen expertise and enable the recipient to acquire novel skills and research methods in a specific discipline.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
Each research scholarship covers travel expenses, stipend for food and housing, research fees and materials, visa and health insurance.
Scholars must return to the Philippines immediately upon completion of their scholarship.
Who can apply:
You are a Filipino citizen living in the Philippines at the time of application. You are proficient in English. You are in good health.
You are an enrolled PhD student or have completed a PhD and currently a faculty or staff at a Philippine University. You have a research plan approved by your institution.
Fields of Study:
Science, Technology, and Engineering disciplines that support high growth sectors of the Philippine economy including: agribusiness, alternative energy, Information and communications technology, chemical industries, electronics, translational medicine, cross- cutting themes in manufacturing and new product development.

USAID STRIDE is accepting applications for PhD and Postdoctoral Research Scholarships in Science and Technology. This is a merit-based program that gives Filipino PhD students and degree-holders an opportunity to conduct research in a U.S. University for up to 12 months. The program aims to build a pool of scientists who will occupy leadership roles to help drive innovation-led inclusive growth in the Philippines. The scholarship program will fund advanced and specialized research in Science, Technology and Innovation, by offering appropriate opportunities to acquire research techniques and fundamental knowledge at U.S. universities.
