Abstrnct
The researcher pursued
an
investigation
of the
listening
 comprehension
skills level of
the 247
junior
high school
 students
in
relation
to their
academic performance. The
researcher employed the descriptive method to achieve this
 goal.
A
set
of
survey
fonns
ancl taped recorded TOEFL-
 hased listening
test
were
the
instnrrnents used
to
gather
data, The researcher found out that the respondents had an
 average mean
of 82.27 in their
academic performance
 which is
in
a satislactory level.
ln
terms
of
their listening
 behaviors,
rnajority of
them
did not
always practice the
proper behaviors on listening. Closely related to
it,
most
of the
respondents
did not
always exercise
good
listening
habits. With regard to their listening skills,
it
was found out
 that 234
or
94.7Yo of the
respondents had
poor
listening

skills.
Regarding the academic pertbrmance and listening
behaviors of the respondents, there was
just
a positive low

to
slight correlation between the
two
variables. The
same
result
appeared
with the
academic performance and
 listening habits. Relating academic performance
with
the
result of their Listening Skills
Evaluation, there
was
a
positive siight
correlation
that
appeared. Generally, the
respondents
had poor listening skills. 'fhus, it can
be
concluded
that poor
listening skills
make
it difficult
for
students
to
improve their acadernic performance.
It
is then
suggested
that
listening
skills
be taught deliberately and
elfectively
utilizing
instructional materials addressing this
concern.
