The purposes of this research were to (1) assess the potentials for learning and using basic level foreign languages of sectors concerning with organizing sustainable nature-based tourism activities in Ko Chang area, Trad province; (2) assess the potentials for learning and using foreign languages in providing information on sustainable nature-based tourism activities in Ko chang area, Trad province; (3) assess the efficiency of foreign languages usage of sectors concerning with organizing sustainable nature-based tourism activities in Ko Chang area, Trad province from the view point of foreign tourists; and (4) study problems, obstacles, and guidelines for development of learning and using foreign languages of sectors concerning with organizing sustainable nature-based tourism activities in Ko Chang area, Trad province. Both the quantitative and qualitative methodologies were employed in this research. The research population comprised two groups, namely, the group of people in the sectors concerning with organizing sustainable nature-based tourism activities, and the group of foreign tourists who came to visit Ko Chang, Trad province. Data were collected with the use of a test, a questionnaire, and a semi-structured interview form.

Quantitative data were analyzed with the use of basic statistics; while qualitative data, the content analysis to formulate inductive conclusions.

Research findings were as follows:

1. Results of the assessment of potentials for learning and using basic level foreign languages of the sectors indicated that the overall potentials were at the high level, with the potential for learning and using foreign languages in saying thanks and excuses being highest, followed by greetings, asking for repeating of sayings, for speaking more slowly, and for rephrasing, respectively.

2. Results of the assessment of potentials for learning and using foreign languages in providing information on sustainable nature-based tourism activities to foreign tourists of the sectors indicated that the overall potentials were at the moderate level

3. Results of the assessment of efficiency of foreign languages usage of the sectors indicated that the overall efficiency of foreign languages usage of the state sector was at the moderate level; while that of the private sector was at the moderate to high level, and that of the people sector was also at the moderate level.

4. Results of the study of problems, obstacles, and guidelines for development of learning and using foreign languages of the sectors indicated that the majority of people in the sectors had problems in speaking and listening; while the most frequently employed method for development of learning and using foreign languages in communicating with foreign tourists was self-learning from the media which was used by people in comparable number to those who attended the training by the state and private sectors. The training sessions should be held during the off-season for tourism in the area. The training topics should be relevant to the services of the sectors.
