Abstract:
Agricluture is rapidly expanding into the forested areas of Eastern Bolivia. This study is the first phase of a soil classifier's contribution to land management. During the 2002-2003 season Soil Science, Inc. of Loganville, Georgia, has been collecting initial reconnaisance information, gps data, limited soil analysis, and site evaluation of a 500 hectare (2,000 acre) site near Ascencion De Guayaros. The main
ecological units of the site are a 200 hectare Curiche (mixed cover wetland) of Aquic Vertisols, a 30 hectare cleared upland field of well drained Alfisols/Ultisols, and 270 hectares of uncut subtropical forest of Alfisols/Ultisols. The main crops are corn, upland rice, and lowland rice.
