Abstract

This research aims to find out, collect, conserve and distribute the knowledge of Northern Thai's wisdom, and in order to co11shuct the children boob : Northern Thai Wisdom Series. It s also study the method of the inttegmtian of teaching, research and academic services to &&p the community. By children bodc construction subject and The subjects of the research are the 29 students, major Thai 42 A. 4 .O1 of Rajabhat Institute Chiang Mai. The research was conducted in academic year 2001. The instrumen& wed are the course outline of Children Book construction, community discussion, teaching materials, data collecting forms and the evaluation f o n of

children books. ^C

Data collecting was conducted by teaching the experimental student group as the process directed in the course outlines ~f the Children-Book Construction Course. The experimental group was required to construct their own local knowledge by returning to their communities in their hometowns in order to hold a community discussion on the local wisdom which rhey were interested in. Then the information from the discussh was used to construct children books.

After that <he b& ^w9m piloted to the primary students in Chiang Mai. The presentation for the analysis and criticism of the appropriation of the book were performed by the students and the exports at the Novotel hokl. The feedback

the experts and the primary students were c d to construct the complete ohildren baoks- Moreover, the students had to take the final examhation as a regular class.

The finding is that the integration of the teaching, the research and acdernic services for community development, which ore the method of bringing the knowledge to the children book

construction and the combination of the participatory research process for the information retrieve and the data collecting techniques for Thai heal wisdom, using focus group technique integrated

with the activities of children book construction is the most effective method. It results in the

' construction of 29 children book. Moreover, after the pilot of the 29 books with the primary

students, 70-100 percents of the students like the books in term of fun and beautiful illustration.

They can also correctly tell the a i m and usefulness of each book. Therehre, it indiates that this research is a part of the

wisdom camexvation and distribution which is m i d e d with all ^' the research objectives to give academic services to the community and they all m the qualifittd books for children.
