Abstract:
Producers are observing and realizing that there are spatial and temporal variable yield limiting factors that exist in their fields. However, they continue to manage their fields uniformly because they lack either the information or the understanding of how to use new precision agriculture technologies to manage field variability. There is a strong need for precision agriculture education to be delivered to farmers, extension agents, and agricultural professionals. In an effort to achieve that end five professional development workshops on precision agriculture management were conducted in eastern Colorado between 2001 and 2003. These workshops typically lasted 8 hours with morning and afternoon sessions consisting of presentations and hands on experience respectively. Change in the level of understanding among the participants prior to and after the workshops will be discussed in this presentation.
