In this talk, we shall discuss various structures of the group of units of finite commutative rings beginning with some fundamental ones such as the groups of units of Zm and of finite fields. The groups of units of a Galois ring and of a finite chain ring are also included.
However, the group of units of a general local ring is still open. There are several reasons that this structure interested many researchers. Primitive roots and primitive elements have numerous applications in Number Theory and Coding Theory. In addition, the exponent of this group leads to the study of the kth power digraphs.
