Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world. Their wings make a humming sound when they fly. Their feathers are also brighter than those of other birds. They eat tiny insects and nectar from flowers.
Unlike other birds, hummingbirds are the only birds that are able to fly backwards.
They can hover like a helicopter in the air and even fly upside down.
Peacocks
Peacocks live in warm places. An interesting feature of peacocks is that they have colourful tail feathers that they spread in a beautiful fan shape to attract females.
The tail feathers can also scare predators away in case of danger.
Plants are the main food source of peacocks. They also eat insects and other small animals.
Owls
Did you know owls can turn their heads 270 degrees? This is because they cannot move their eyes so they have to turn their heads to see things around them.
Most owls sleep during the day and become active at night. They can see very well in the dark. They use camouflage to blend in with their surroundings so that they can hide from their enemies and surprise their prey. They eat small insects and other small animals like mice and frogs.
Parrots
A parrot has a strong curved beak to climb and to crack open hard food. Just like most birds, they eat fruit, seeds and insects.
They are clever creatures because they are able to learn from human speech sounds and copy them. This makes them popular pets among people.
Wild parrots usually live in tropical areas, where the weather does not change much from season to season.
