The main objective of this study is to identify the reality of information seeking behavior among journalists in the Okaz Press and Publication Organization; in terms of the types of information they need, the motives for seeking information, the means used to access information sources, to what extent they can use them, the stated reasons associated with using certain sites of social networks and the main difficulties they face. . The study is based on the descriptive survey method, using the electronic questionnaire from Google Drive as the main tool for data collection. The study included a sample of (58) male and female journalists who are currently editors in three newspapers (Okaz, al-nadi, Saudi Gazette) which are all published by the Okaz Organization for Press and Publication.
The study has come up with a number of results, and the most important of them are: The most necessary information, for the journalists of the study sample, is social information (with 15%), then public information (with 13%), then. statistical data (with 11%), the most important motive for seeking information, is investigative reports (with 29%), followed by writing news and reports (with 24%). The most used methods are online tools, such as search engines and directories (with 18%), followed by social networking sites (with 13%), secondly, reading newspapers (with 12%), the top five percentages of information sources. always used by members of the study sample are websites (with 88%), followed by official sources, (with 67%), then personal sources and printed newspapers (with 62%), then Twitter ( with 59%), then, . The most common reasons for using social networking sites by members of the study sample is to find out public opinion on current events (with 28%), followed by communicating with people (with 23%), seeking information about an issue or a special. The event (by 19%), the most important difficulties faced by the members of the journalist study sample when searching for information is the lack of time (by 28%), followed by the lack of reliability or trustworthiness of the information available on the networks social. sites (by 19%), the large amount of information available (by 11%) and the lack of reliable websites (by 10%).
The work on the issue of evidence includes major search engines, websites and social networking sites that are useful for journalistic work, and interesting sections of the press in Saudi universities, new media, social media and give their students the skills that new journalism requires.
