Course Description

The focus of this course is on how to prepare a plan, organize, and implement complex projects. Topics include the decision on: project planning, organizing, forming an administrative body, scheduling, follow-up and monitoring, conflict management, cost-effective, quality, the operations of the team, driving styles.

Course Objectives

1. To provide a clear understanding of the risks, issues and critical success factors associated with projects management.

2. To understand the role and function of the project.

3. To study methods for dealing with the project quality.

4. To study methods of dealing with procurement project.

5. To study different methods to deal with project teams.

Course Methods and Procedures

The course will consist of lectures, discussion of cases, and in-class exercises. Students are required to read the assigned material prior to the class meeting. Class participation is encouraged and expected, as it will help students to better understand the materials discussed. Periodically, relevant videos may be shown to demonstrate the operations of service and manufacturing enterprises.

Final grade will be determined as follows

There will be NO opportunities for “extra credit” for any student beyond the grading algorithm in this syllabus.

2 Late Submission of Course Materials

Late submissions are not allowed, unless a plausible and documented excuse is presented. If a student cannot attend an exam, she should notify me before the scheduled exam time if she wishes to be eligible for a makeup. The student may be required to provide appropriate documentation to support her case.

Attendance:

Your attendance is a must. Students are expected to attend all classes regularly and punctually. A student with irregular class attendance should expect a negative effect on her course performance. My expectation is that you do not leave the classroom in the middle of a lecture. If you have a conflict and unable to attend the class; please attempt to secure the class notes from a fellow student. Student with more than 6 absents will be denied to take the final exam.

Classroom Conduct:

You are expected to observe the following simple rules of the classroom conduct:

• Be in class on time

• Turn off cell phones before class begins

• Share questions/comments with everyone; no sidebars, it’s distracting
