CONFERENCES &

SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS

2004- 2008 University of Leicester, School of Medicine, Leicester, UK.

PhD Molecular Tumour Immunology

 Title: Identification of tumour associated antigens as potential targets for the immunotherapy of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (B-CLL).

 Supervisor: Dr. M.J. Browning, senior clinical lecturer in immunology

 Project: There is a number of tumour antigens which have been tested for the immunotherapy of different types of cancers. The differential expression of survivin in tumour cells compared to most normal tissues and direct involvement in the oncogenic process make it a candidate for a molecular marker of cancer and an attractive target for the cancer immunotherapy. Therefore, the goal of this research was to investigate the potential of survivin as a target for immunotherapy in B-CLL and to identify other tumour-associated antigens expressed in B-CLL that may be also used as targets for the immunotherapy of this disease (Appendix 1).

2002- 2003 University of Manchester, School of Medicine and Biological Sciences, Manchester, UK.

MSc Immunology and Immunogenetics

Dissertation: Gene Polymorphism in Breast Cancer.

1997- 2002 King Abdulaziz University, School of Science, Jeddah, KSA.

BSc Biology, Microbiology

2004-2007 University of Leicester, UK Postgraduate Demonstrator

I had constantly been involved in the supervision of undergraduates in their microbiology practical classes. This required guiding them through their experiments, explaining to them the aim of doing them and analysing the results with them, working in groups, being ready to help at any time during the class, taking the responsibility of up to 60 students for six hours continuously, looking after their safety while working and marking their reports at the end of the course.

 2004 Blood and its disorders conference, King AbdulAziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

 2002 and 2004 The Annual Immunology Conference, Harrogate, UK.

2004- present Successfully completed various courses, seminars and workshops listed in the attached table.

Western Blotting, Flow Cytometry (FACS), Intracellular and extracellular staining for FACs analysis, Tissue culture, Cellular Proliferation (3H thymidine incorporation), Reverse Transcriptase PCR and electrohporesis, DNA and RNA preparations, PBMC isolation, B and T cells separation, monocytes separation, Dendritic cells culture, ELISpot, 51Cr release assay, Activation assays.

Communication: Good communication skills were gained from giving presentations, teaching, supervising undergraduates and technichians and attending seminars and conferences. Also, I have learned to seek and accept criticism, using this in a positive manner to further build on my skills. I understand that good communication is vital to a successful organization and that within training, listening can be more important than verbal skills.

Team Work: Successful course work was dependent upon particiation and motivation of syndicated project groups. Working towards one goal with people from other departments and from different backgrounds and cultures was of my pleasure and added a lot to my experience.

Problem solving and analytical thinking: Having problems in establishing and using the right techniques in my PhD research taught me to be creative and find different ways to solve them out.

Computing: Good knowledge of using office management programs and working on getting the international computer driving lisence (ICDL) which requires learning the

concepts of information technology (IT)

,

using the computer and managing files, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, information and communication.

Languages: Fluent in Arabic and English and a beginner in French.

 2006-2008 Awarded a scholarship from the ministry of higher education in Saudi Arabia to get my PhD.
