Course Name: Implantology Course Code: OMR 521
Course Description:
With increased patient awareness and expectations towards dental
implants, dental students must have the ability to recognize the indication for dental implants and provide therapy at the suitable level. Dental implant therapy has become a predictable and possible option for partially and completely edentulous patients. Advantages include conservation of the adjacent tooth structure, longevity with high success rates, preservation of the alveolar bone and resistance to caries.
The need to thoughtfully incorporate implant therapy into undergraduate dental education is a current reality that will be addressed in this course. This years course is purely theoretical in nature, aiming to enrich students with comprehensive up-to-date knowledge about the latest dental implant techniques, treatments, and solutions. The course constitutes a didactic component that will be delivered in 11 lectures, in addition to three hands on lectures. The didactic part will cover the rationale of implant therapy as well as the theoretical background for different phases (clinical and laboratory procedures) of implant treatment. Implant therapy in medically compromised patients will also be addressed.
