The Course Description in Brief:
This course familiarizes students with terminology in English and Arabic used in the different types and branches of mass media printed and non-printed, namely newspapers, magazines, film, radio and television. The course also highlights the linguistic and cultural features inherent to the translation of mass media texts from and into Arabic and English. Students will use specialized dictionaries while translating texts in this field.
The Course Objectives:
This course aims at introducing students to the register and terminology of mass media in both Arabic and English. It also provides students with hands-on translation of Arabic and English texts related to mass media in order to enhance their skills and ability to overcome problems and difficulties when engaged in translating in this field. The course also aims at enabling students to develop and strengthen their repertoire of mass media terminology in Arabic and English.
Contents:
1. Mass media terminology in English and Arabic
2. A study of cultural and linguistic differences that mark source and target languages in the field of mass media
3. Practical training on selected texts in the field of mass media
4. A study of the sentence structure in Arabic and English in the field of mass media
5. Specialized dictionary usage The Course Outcomes:

Assessment Methods:
Assessment mechanism is based on a continuous assessment of in-class performance, assignments, periodic tests, and a final exam.
