What are the general basics of organic farming?

1. Appropriate design and management of biological processes based on ecosystems in the following ways:

ü The use of living organisms and mechanical production methods.

ü The practice of agricultural, livestock and/or aquarium production that is consistent with the principle of sustainable optimum exploitation of agriculture.

ü Excluding the use of genetically modified organisms and products produced from or by genetically modified organisms.

ü It is based on risk assessment and the use of precautionary and preventive measures, when necessary.

What are the objectives of organic farming?

2. Producing safe and high quality products.

3. Diversified production of food and agricultural products that respond to consumer demand by using processes that do not harm the environment, human health, plants and animals.

What are organic farming legislation?

Council of Ministers Resolution No. (309) dated 93/1435 AH was issued, crowned by Royal Decree No. ( /100, م dated 16/9/1435 AH), approving the organic farming system. His Excellency The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture approved the regulation Implementation of the Organic Agriculture System by Ministerial Decision No. 216506 of 16/5/1437 AD covering the stages of production, preparation, distribution and control of organic products^.

What is the monitoring system?

Established under the standards and controls of organic agriculture activity in Saudi Arabia and includes the application of control and precautionary methods taken by the Organic Production Department of The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.

These criteria determine the nature and frequency of controls based on an assessment of the risk of

irregularities and abuses, all organic operators are subject to verification of the obligation at least once a year.

The Organic Production Department of The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture is empowered to control entities in the private sector. Control entities shall provide adequate assurances of objectivity and integrity.

What is the Saudi national logo for organic

products?

What is the Saudi national logo for organic products?

ü The logo is granted by the Department of Organic Production at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in coordination with the Saudi Society for Organic Agriculture.

ü The Saudi national logo can be placed on the organic products produced in accordance with the executive regulations of the organic farming system.

ü Producers and agricultural companies shall obtain a certificate of authentication from the approved authentication authorities.

ü Producers and agricultural companies shall register with the Organic Production Department at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

ü The logo is not given to products under transformation.
