Contributions: Developed an end-to-end design environment for cryptographic applications and performed design space exploration for throughput, flexibility and security in a holistic fashion. Particularly, Elliptic Curve Cryptography has been targeted for high performance and resource constrained environments.
Exploration of Hardware Architectures for Deep Learning Application (From 2020 to 2021):
Funding Agency: Deanship of Scientific Research at Umm Al Qura University Budget: 4,75, 400 Saudi Riyals (SAR)
Contributions: Developed a flexible system-on-chip solution for various deep learning applications. The target platform consists of a System-on-chip containing an ARM processor and some reconfigurable fabric.
Timing Behavior of Real-Time Systems through Dynamic Analysis (From 2017 to 2019):
Funding Agency and Budget: NSTIP, 2,000,000 SAR
Contributions: Designed an expert system for the measurement-based timing analysis, by applying various machine learning techniques, for the fast estimation of worst-case execution time in real-time embedded systems.
Consequently, drastically reduced the required simulation time.
Logic-Intensive Reconfigurable Architectures and Tools (From 2015 to 2017):

Contributions: Developed application specific FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) architectures and CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools for the optimization of area, configuration bits and power.

Contributions: Proposed a unified model based system engineering framework for the simplified execution of static and dynamic assertions. Innovative Curriculum Development Approach:
• Designed and implemented a holistic vision of engineering curriculum (computer engineering department as a case study) by employing the Y-chart methodology and published the results in “IEEE Transactions on Education” (2014). Development of New Undergraduate Courses:
• Developed an undergraduate course for embedded systems using model based system engineering and published the results in “Computer Applications in Engineering Education” (2020). • Developed an undergraduate course for digital systems design using problem based learning and published the results in “International Journal of Engineering Education” (2015). The proposed approach has focused on various hard skills skills such as problem formulation, critical thinking and life-long-learning. • Developed an undergraduate course for engineering design process and system design tools. The first part of the course is related to the development of problem formulation, requirement specifications and design space exploration. The second part of the course is related to system design tools. I am teaching this course since last 2 years. A publication, based on the teaching experiences for this course, is under preparation.

ACCREDITATION & QUALITY ASSURANCE: (From 2011 to Present)
For the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation of CE Program at UQU, I worked with other faculty members for the development of a quality assurance system. A summary of my contributions is given in the following:
Development of a systematic methodology for the preparation of assessment data:
• Developed a systematic methodology for the preparation of assessment data in the context of accreditation
• Published the results in “International Journal of Engineering Education” (2021).
• The proposed approach is based on the identification of requirements and their mapping on various resources.
• A total of 23 tasks have been identified by taking the ABET accreditation visit as a sample case study.
• The identified tasks are then mapped on different resources.
• The interface between various resources has been explicitly defined to avoid any ambiguity.

Exploration of quality principles in industry for outcome based engineering education:
• Identified the common clusters between a QMS (Quality Management System) in industry and an OBE (Outcome Based Education) paradigm.
• Published the results in “Education Sciences” (2021).
• Introduced integrated quality culture for the standardization of various procedures.
• Provided recommendations to realize QMS principles in OBE settings.

Accreditation Visits:
• Established a continuous improvement process for ABET requirements.
• Participated in the preparation of self-study report.
• Particularly, I have written the following three chapters: curriculum, assessment, evaluation and facilities.
• CE department successfully achieved the ABET accreditation twice (2014 and 2019).
Software Preparation and Tool Evaluation:
• Extensively evaluated the CLOSO software, for accreditation process: http://www.smart-accredit.com/.
• Automate the collection of data from various parties and generated the reports in a desirable format.
• Unified/centralized the data collection, data synthesis, assessment/evaluation, and presentation processes.
• Increased collaboration among faculty through to improve an overall educational experience.
• Helped the CLOSO development team in the optimization of their software and tool.
• Assisted other faculty members in the preparation of course folders.

The faculty members work in the form of different committee to accomplish various accreditation tasks. In this context, I have chaired the following committees:
• Curriculum Committee (2013-present): Developed and maintained the curriculum, aligned with student outcomes (SOs) and relevant to professional practices, through a holistic approach.
• Assessment and Evaluation Committee: (2012-present): Formulated course learning outcomes for the entire curriculum, through a systematic methodology, and mapped them on student outcomes.
• Laboratories Assessment Committee: (2011-present): Improved facilities by developing a mechanism for periodic assessment and evaluation of engineering laboratories.
• Capstone Project Evaluation Committee: (2012-present): Reviewed capstone design projects and developed a systematic criterion for the assessment of projects.

• Leader of the research and development (R&D) team for embedded systems design (avionics applications).

• Worked in various collaborative projects, funded by European Union, in the domain of embedded systems

• Evaluated various commercial tools for video applications, from functional simulation to system synthesis.

MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE IN INDUSTRY (From Jul. 2000 to June 2005)
Assistant Manager in Advanced Engineering Research Organization (AERO) Pakistan:
• Conducted research and development activities along with a proactive project management approach.
• Leader of the project team responsible for the development of Automatic Test Equipment (ATE).
• Worked closely with system engineers, manufacturing engineers and production test laboratories.
• Developed testing plans at different levels of verification and validation.
• Implemented the developed test plans in a fast moving production environment.
• Executed test plans for PCB (Printed Circuit Board) level testing, LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) level testing, Full functional testing of an assembled system (System Level Testing) and Flight Line Testing.
• Efficiently performed root-cause analysis of test failures and communicated recommended actions.
• Successfully deployed a reusable test equipment and diagnostic system to identify faults.
• Ensured the product reliability after executing a comprehensive verification and validation plan.
