Personal Statement
One of my future objectives in life is to be a faculty member in an academic institute, teaching students, conducting research and adding to the quality of my profession, which is Biotechnology. Currently, I am a Teaching Assistant (TA) in the Department of
Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at King Abdulaziz University (KAU),
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I had the honor to be among the second group graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy at King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. From which I earned Pharm.D Degree in July 2008 with a A gradeGPA; 4.60 OUT OF 5 ; ranked 2nd . I was then chosen to join the faculty at KAU and was awarded a governmental scholarship to continue doing my postgraduate studies in the United States. The government of Saudi Arabia is working on improving the standards of higher education and one of its plans is to offer scholarships to young people like me to earn PhDs in their selected fields and come back to aid in improving the education in Saudi Arabia. Getting such scholarships is very competitive and critical. I was among those who were selected to get a scholarship and for that I worked hard to fulfill their requirements. All these privileges encouraged me and guided me to seek an acceptance in a strong program like yours.
I am confident in my qualifications as a competitive applicant for your highly respected program, partially because of my unusual interest in biotechnology and genetic engineering . As a bridge across medical science and pharmacy, biotechnology plays a vital role in the research on the ways to resist diseases. Faced with this academic discipline that is inextricably connected with human life and human welfare, I have always been fascinated by this subject, bent on making my own contributions to the improvement of the quality of human life.
I passed successfully the 6-years program of Pharm.D, although it was one of the most difficult and condensed programs in the middle east. At the same time I had the chance to learn from great faculty members who had foreign degrees from US and Europe. I was fulfill my undergraduate study (with a final grade = A). The 6 year Pharm.D program included the following courses:
Pharmaceutical Chemistry I ( D grade), Pharmaceutical Chemistry II (B grade), Biochemistry (C grade), Physiology (C grade), Anatomy & Histology (C grade),
Biostatistics, (D grade), Pharmacology (A grade), Therapeutics I (A grade), Therapeutics II (B grade), Therapeutics III & IV (A grade), Basic and Clinical Toxicology (A grade), Pharmaceutics I (D grade), Pharmaceutics II (A grade), Pharmaceutics III (A grade), Pharmaceutics IV (A grade), Medicinal Chemistry I & II (A grade), Pharmaceutical Microbiology (A grade), Natural Products (A grade), Phytochemistry (A grade),
Biopharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics (A grade), Clinical Biochemistry & Nutrition ( A grade), Physical Assessment & First Aid (A grade), Contemporary Pharmacy Practice (A grade), Hospital Pharmacy & Pharmacy Administration (B grade),
2
Pharmacy Law & Ethics (A grade) . In addition to: Clinical Pharmacokinetics (A grade), Drug information and literature evaluation (B grade), Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (A grade), Quality Control (B grade). During the sixth year I accomplished six clinical clerkship five weeks for each: Ambulatory care, Internal medicine, Community pharmacy practice, Hospital pharmacy practice, in addition to two elective clerkships.
Being a TA, I’m involved in teaching of the courses of biotechnology, where I supervised the laboratory sessions for the Pharm.D students and gave a lecture about the Biotechnology . I found teaching as an enjoyable career I like to do, especially in
Biotechnology.
One of the strong points in me is the team work. I do believe strongly that team work is the best way to learn. I had the chance to build good relationships with my class mates and work with them in very professional way. My weakness comes in research, since I am a recent graduate. Unfortunately, I did not have an opportunity to conduct research. But during my last year in the PharmD program, I submitted and presented Survey Article on ''Role of Pharmacist in Home Health Care.. An Overview of HHC Quality in Saudi Arabia'' as the graduation project. At the same time, I was taught some basic principles about how conducting research in the field of pharmacy..
