Rules Governing the Reproduction of Currencies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
In accordance with the provisions of Articles (4) and (5) of the Penal Regulation for Forgery and Imitation of currency issued under Royal Decree No. 12 dated 20/7/1379H, concerning the approval of rules for issuing reproduction permission to reproduce banknotes in a way that ensures they are well protected against forgery and counterfeit, the Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) approves the rules for reproduction of banknotes as follows:
First: General Instructions
Any natural or legal person shall be prohibited from reproducing, copying, or using the images or design of any Saudi or foreign currency in circulation in the Kingdom for commercial, information or cultural purposes without obtaining a prior permission from SAMA.
The use of copies, reproduction or designs of Saudi or foreign currencies in circulation in the Kingdom in the form of posters, manufactured products, or three-dimensional objects; or in the form of packing for manufactured items or in form of money and the like shall definitely be prohibited.
Any person violating the instructions shall be punished pursuant to the provisions of the Penal Regulation for Forgery and Imitation of currency issued under Royal Decree No. 12 dated 20/7/1379 and in accordance with Anti Forgery Law issued under Royal Decree No. 114 dated 26/11/1380H.
Second: Rules for reproducing a foreign currency in legal circulation inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
For the reproduction of a foreign currency in legal circulation inside the Kingdom to be used in printed materials or electronic (digital) media, currency reproduction permission shall be obtained from SAMA.
To obtain the permission, instructions and regulations issued by competent authorities issuing the currency to be reproduced shall be observed.
Third: Rules for reproducing a Saudi currency legally in circulation inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
For the reproduction of a Saudi Currency legally in circulation inside the Kingdom to be used in printed materials or electronic (digital) media, permission for reproducing the currency shall be obtained from SAMA.
To obtain a permission for the reproduction of a Saudi Currency legally in circulation inside the Kingdom to be used in printed materials, the following rules and controls shall be observed:
o The material to be published or printed shall be attached to an application for a permission to reproduce the currency, describing technical specifications in terms of
shape, color and size, indicating the purpose of publishing of the Saudi currency image (Commercial / Information / Cultural).
o The image of the King shall not be distorted in any manner (neither by enlargement, reduction, nor by changing its coordinates).
o The image of the Saudi currency shall not be used in an improper context.
o There shall not be a risk of deceiving the public that it is a genuine currency.
o The image may be one side of the currency provided that:
The size of the image shall not be more than 75 % of the length and width of the original banknote, or
The size of the image shall not be less than 150 % of the length and width of the original banknote.
o The image may be of both sides of the currency provided that:
The size of the image shall not be more than 50% of the original respective banknote's length and width , or
The size of the image shall not be less than 200% of the original respective banknote's length and width.
The front side of the currency shall not be depicted on a background resembling of the banknote's reverse side.
o All materials used in the reproduction process, including films (negative and positive) and plates, shall be destroyed soon after their use.
o To obtain a permission for reproducing a Saudi Currency in legal circulation inside the Kingdom to be used in electronic (digital) media, the following instructions and controls must be observed:
o The purpose of using the Saudi currency shall be stated (commercial / information or cultural).
o The image of the King shall not be distorted in any manner (neither by enlargement, reduction, nor by changing its coordinates).
o The image of Saudi currency shall not be used in an improper context.
o The resolution of the electronic reproduction in its original size shall not exceed 72 dpi (dots per inch)
o The word "SPECIMEN" shall be printed diagonally and clearly on the reproduced banknote, using different color.
o All materials used in the reproduction process, including films (negatives and positives) and plates, must be destroyed soon after their use.
