General Information
DescriptionIn today’s organization, information is recognized as a key resource equal in weight to any major key resources such as people and raw materials. Information is also recognized as a critical factor that can cause a business to succeed or fail (Kendall & Kendall, 2019).
The course of system analysis and design is concerned with identifying, planning, and development of information systems that comprehend the requirements of business stakeholders. Students will be able to think as system analysts, exploring and becoming familiar with systems analysis and design concepts, principles, stages, methodologies, techniques, and tools of solving business problems.
Course Learning Outcomes
After successfully completion of this course, students should be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:
1 Knowledge
1.1 Identify the required roles, responsibilities, skills, competence and practices of system analysists within a typical organisation
1.2 Know how to identify and scope business problems
1.3 Develop familiarity with the major phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
2 Skills
2.1 Gather, analyse, communicate and document requirements
2.2 Illustrate system graphically; utilize Data Flow Diagramming (DFD) and Entity Relationship (ER) modelling in user requirement analysis
3 Competence
3.1 Analyse and incorporate user requirements, business rules and constraints into the design of information systems

Class participation
A number of case studies will be assigned to each student, which will have question to be answered by students individually or in pairs. These answers will be collected during the classroom.

Blackboard discussion board will be used to by instructor. There will be threaded discussions taking place during the semester. Students must post their thoughts to the thread and make reply (at least one post and one reply for each thread). Students will be assessed for this discussion.
Group project
Guidelines on how to execute your project will be sent to you separately on Blackboard.
Exams
Exams are accessed through Blackboard. Students are not allowed to use notes, books or other reference material during the exam session. Exams duration is 50 minutes. Dates and times will be determined later.
Attendance
Attendance is an important mechanism to gain your class participation marks. While there is no single mark is assigned to your attendance, there will be a DN grade for those who have been absent more than 20% of lectures. Class attendance is permanently checked.
