Course Information
This course covers the fundamentals of technical communication. In a collaborative classroom community, students develop the strategies and skills needed to plan, propose, research, reference, organize, write, and revise a formal technical research report.
Secondary objectives focus on enhancing other forms of technical communication including presentation and job skills. Key topics include: CVs, cover letters, job interviews, presentation skills, five stages of the writing process: (1) Preparation (developing a research question, proposals), (2) Research (primary research sources, Internet sources, direct quotations & paraphrasing, referencing sources), (3)
Organization, (4) First Draft (abstract, introduction, conclusion), and (5) Revision (sentence and paragraph structure, layout & design, report supplements)
Aims
The purpose of this course is:
Help students to improve their writing skills by learning successful writing strategies.
Improve other forms of technical communication such as presentation and job skills.
