Hussain Naimi, Lusail Real Estate Development Company CEO‘s Advisor for Smart City
Hussain has more than 35 years’ experience in Information Technology and managerial positions in varied sectors including Property Management, major airline system development, training
& consultancy services and retailing sector. Husain‘s recent experience before joining Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) was Director ICT for Tanween (Subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate) responsible for ICT development, Operation and Smart City projects specially for Barwa Al Khor project and other subsidiaries of Barwa related projects. Prior to this, Hussain was Head of Information Technology with United Development Company (UDC) responsible for strategic ICT management and development of Smart Island (The Pearl Qatar project). Subsequent to this, he was part of the executive management for system development with Gulf Air for 25 years. He was responsible for the development of Information Technology strategic plans including a successful strategy for downsizing to UNIX platform, allocation of resources and implementation of approved plans, preparation of annual ICT budget of over $35 Million, Management of Systems Development Department which consisted of over 200 IT specialists to develop and support over 70 major applications within the airline operation.Hussain is currently a consultant to LREDC (Lusail Project - a 38sq Kmtrs development in Qatar) and solely involved in the strategy and Management of Lusail Smart City project, In addition to his technical role, Hussain is also the distinguished member of the Lusail Smart City Committee.
Ali Al-Khulaifi, Supreme Council of Information & Communication Technology (ICT Qatar)
ICT Market Development Manager
Ali Al-Khulaifi is Market Development Manager at ictQATAR- the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology in Qatar. With his experience of over 11 years as a senior manager at ICT QATAR, Qatar Telecom, and Vodafone Qatar, Ali is charged with developing the ICT market in Qatar through strategic initiatives aimed at attracting foreign direct investment to Qatar as well as nurturing the local ICT market to maturity. Ali Al-Khulaifi is also part of Qatar’s national World Trade Organization committee. He holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Qatar University.
In 2007, Ali received a Project Management Professional Certificate from the Project Management Institute in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, QU Wireless Innovations Center (QUWIC) Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer
Adnan has more than 20 years of international experience in the areas of wireless/telecomm R&D, product innovations, business development, and services delivery. Before moving to Qatar in 2007, he worked for 10 years at AT&T Wireless in Seattle, USA where he served in a number of management positions covering Product Innovations & Emerging Technologies, Systems Engineering, Product Realization, Intellectual Property Management and Licensing. Before that, Adnan worked as a Senior Manager at Nortel Networks in Canada in the advanced technology group and as a Senior Consultant at the Communications Research Centre in Ottawa, Canada. From April 2007 to Dec. 2008, he was the Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department at Qatar University.He led the initiative to create and then was appointed as the Founding Executive Director (CEO) of the QU Wireless Innovations Center (QUWIC) in Jan. 2009 at the Qatar Science and Technology Park, Doha, Qatar. QUWIC is focused on utilizing emerging wireless/mobile technologies to develop smart solutions and applications tackling the needs of different market segments in the region including Intelligent Transportation, Environment, Utilities, Mobile Health, etc. Adnan received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Queens University, Canada in 1992. He has many issued and pending patents and more than fifty publications in the field of wireless communications technologies and services.
Ali U. Al-Najim, Saudi Green Building Council (SGBC) Deputy Chairman & Co-founder
Ali Al- Najim has a BS in Architecture Engineering from King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals and a Master in Architecture from King Faisal University. He has more than 100 publications in sustainability & energy and with one third of the total being on Power conservation & energy savings.
He holds various positions including the Deputy Chairman/Co-founder of Saudi Green Building Council (SGBC), Architecture Deputy Chairman, Saudi Council of Engineers( CE-SCE), Registered Consultant Engineer (CE-SCE), Saudi Council for Engineers and a Senior Energy Consultant. He is also a member of International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), Saudi Association for Energy Economies (SAEE), Saudi Umran Society and Classification and Arbitration Committee, Saudi Council of Engineers
Ahmed Jassim Al-Jolo, Qatar Society of Engineers, Qatar Chairman
Engineer Ahmad Jassim al-Jolo has more than 25 years experience in the construction industry. A civil engineer, Al-Jolo is now chairman of the Qatar Society of Engineers and is a founding member of the Qatar Green Buildings Council. A former chairman of the Professional Engineers Committee at the Urban Planning & Development Authority, he is at present a member of the accreditation board for the engineering programme at the College of Engineering at Qatar University and evaluator for graduate student projects at Qatar University, Texas A&M where he lectures frequently. Al-Jolo is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Christopher Sorensen, Masdar City – U.A.E Deputy Director - Technology & Innovation
Mr. Sorensen has been leading innovative developments for the last 25 years in both large and small scale projects. He has been responsible for leading innovative transformation at iconic companies like Accenture and Bang & Olufsen as well as entrepreneurial initiatives creating new EU consortia, SME start-ups and corporate spin-offs. Mr. Sorensen’s domain experience reaches well around the public- private spectrum including innovation cluster development, smart buildings, smart grid, renewables, leadership and education, healthcare, transportation and ICT/AV. His education background includes engineering, psychology and an MBA and his work spans the US, Europe and the Middle East. Masdar is the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company - a world leading clean tech cluster headquartered in the UAE. This global commercial effort under the sovereign wealth firm Mubadala, includes the graduate research efforts of the Masdar Institute developed in collaboration with MIT, global funds managed by Masdar Capital, carbon capture and trading via Masdar Carbon, utility scale renewable energy projects by Masdar Power and the real estate test bed Masdar City.
Cyril Deschanel, Vodafone Head of M2M Southern Region
Cyril is the Head of M2M for Southern region, responsible for Vodafone global companies and government organizations operation with this region. His expertise ranges from end to end M2M solutions covering the utilities, automotive and healthcare industries to the implementation of a unified global data connectivity platform which introduces reliable provisioning and management of SIM cards across various assets for large organizations spanning across all these industries.
Dr. Edward Klinger, CNIguard Chief Executive Officer
Edward is an engineer with 30 years experience in creating, building and running global technology companies. He is founder and CEO of CNIguard which manufactures smart sensoring systems for critical national infrastructure including water, electricity, oil & gas, and defence sectors. He is also Chairman of Ozonelink, a homeland security technology incubator. Previously he was with PwC, Perot Systems, and Pratt & Whitney, and an Adjunct Professor at McGill University. Edward holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from McGill and an MBA from Wharton.
Enrico Grino, Qatar National Bank Group Credit Division
Enrico Grino joined Qatar National Bank (QNB) in 2004, and until October 2011 was the Head of Structured and Project Finance, responsible for overseeing all aspects of structured finance activities that QNB Group is involved with including Project finance, Asset Backed Financing, Islamic Finance, Corporate Finance and Syndications. He was recently appointed QNB Group Credit Adviser. Mr. Grino was educated in the Philippines and United States. He majored in Economics, Accounting and Finance (with Honors) from La Salle University. He has over 30 years banking experience in Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Structured and Project Finance, Syndications and Risk Management having worked with, and acquired extensive specialized banking training from, Chase Group, Banque Indosuez Group (now Credit Agricole) and Citigroup in the Far East, Europe, USA and the Middle East.
Mohammed Shah, Madinah Knowledge Economic City VP Technology Infrastructure & Services
A recognised IT executive with over 15 years experience in leading edge IT and change implementation in the Middle East in areas of IT Strategy, Smart City IT, ERP, DSS, IT Outsourcing & transforming IT into a Profit Centre. Acclaimed as an agent of change with a track-record of successfully implementing complex IT and change projects to a reference site standard meeting challenging deadlines on time and in budget. Twice Awarded as one of the Top 10 IT Managers of the Middle East and featured in numerous published articles in IT and Project Management in the region‘s IT publications. Patrick Marti is the Deputy General Manager and Director Corporate Sales of Saia-Burgess Controls Ltd, Switzerland. He has a B.S. in Electric and Electronic Engineering from Le Locle University of Applied Science. He started his career in industrial weighing for explosion proof environment and paint mixing systems, before joining the telecom division of Swatch. He is active since over 17 years with Saia-Burgess Controls in International sales assignments.
Dr. Ralph Gambetta, Calypso Networks Association Head of Promotion
Ralph Gambetta, Managing Director of Temco GmbH, has a management and a politics background with Ph.D. as well as a strong involvement into the transportation sector. Before joining in 1997 Temco GmbH he has been active in various transport companies such as German Railway, International Railway Union (UIC) and RATP (Paris metro and bus operator). Projects have included the successful smart card project CALYPSO (Contact And contactLess telematics platform Yielding a citizen Pass integrating urban Services and financial Operations) and SINCE project (Secure and Interoperable Networking for Contactless in Europe). Since 2005 he is in charge of promotion at Calypso Networks Association and the deployment of electronic ticketing schemes. Further he is member of the German standardisation committee of information technology and smart cards.
Richard H. Jones, International Energy Agency Deputy Executive Director
Richard H. Jones took up his duties as Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency on 1 October 2008. Ambassador Jones, a former American diplomat, brings to the IEA over thirty years of diplomatic and policy experience on issues ranging from Middle East politics to trade negotiations and energy security. After a rapid rise through the ranks of the U.S. Foreign Service, he served as the American Ambassador to four countries: Israel (2005-2008), Kuwait (2001-2004), Kazakhstan (1998-2001) and Lebanon (1996-1998). He also acted as the U.S. Secretary of State’s Senior Advisor and Co-ordinator for Iraq Policy from February-August, 2005. During his diplomatic career Ambassador Jones gained a wide range of policy experience in energy policy. Early in his diplomatic career he served as Economic Policy Advisor at the U.S. Mission to the OECD. Born in 1950 near Shreveport, Louisiana, Ambassador Jones has a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics with distinction from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, and an MS and PhD in Business/Statistics from the University of Wisconsin. In addition to his native English, his foreign languages include Arabic, French, Russian and German.
Salah Nezar, Qatar Project Management – Qatar Sustainability Director
Salah is an award winning experienced Sustainability Specialist with 23 years of international experience in delivering variety of projects across numerous sectors. He holds the position of Sustainability Director at QPM. He is LEED Accredited Professional and QSAS Certified Green Professional and has led the design and Design-management of a number of prestigious projects such as: Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou China (designated to be the first zero energy skyscraper in the world), United Nation Headquarter Upgrade in NYC (historic sustainable renovation of the HQ complex), Madagascar House- Bronx Zoo (first LEED-Gold Certification for a Landmark Building in NY State), Bank of America-1 Bryant Park, NYC (first skyscrapers achieving LEED Platinum Certification in the US) and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, and Barwa Financial District.
Salah is the author of numerous published works, technical papers related to High Performance Buildings, Carbon Neutral Solutions and Indoor Environment Quality. Salah holds two Masters of Science Degrees; MS in Mechanical Engineering specialising in High Performance Buildings and the second one in Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Sa‘di Awienat, Qatar Foundation – Qatar Director Of Information Technology Directorate
Sa’di Awienat is director of IT at Qatar Foundation’s Information Technology Directorate. In support of Qatar Foundation’s mission and core objectives, he is responsible for developing and managing both short and long term IT plans and strategies, and maintaining relationships with customers and partners. He has successfully implemented a rich portfolio of business applications maintained by an IT infrastructure capable of supporting the substantial growth within Qatar Foundation and its’ advanced research facilities. Before joining Qatar Foundation, Sa’di worked as a Manager in the Financial Sector for Accenture. Within this role he led several projects of system implementation and integration in various regional banks. Mr. Awienat holds an MBA Degree and Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering topped with more than 15-Year of experience in various IT disciplines across range of sectors.

Eng. Sultan is registered as a professional engineer at Saudi Council of Engineers. Eng. Faden graduated from CED - KFUPM Dhahran-Saudi Arabia & went ahead to study graduate Diploma in architectural design at the Architectural Association (AA) – London – UK. He has 19 years of experience working for major Saudi Consulting offices, including his own practice. Since 2006, he’s been focusing on green building and sustainability in the built environment. With being the Adviser for Makkah Municipality he is also the founder of the Saudi Green Building Council since 2008.

Tareq Alemadi is currently Head of Information Technology at the Office of Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser also Vice General Manager for Alemadi Group. He is responsible for building and maintaining a highly available, scalable, and centralised IT infrastructure. Prior to his current position, he has worked for over a decade at Qatar Telecom in various positions including the role of Project Manager for the company’s electronic portal. He has extensive experience and understanding of various aspects of business processes, project management, software development, portals, and cloud computing. Tareq hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the Qatar University.

His unique knowledge is Hybrid Automation combining both Industrial (Oil & Gas) as well as Building Controls which facilitate to bring ‚industrial quality and good practices‘ into the building controls sector.
