Welcome letter
You’ve now made the decision to study Working drawing with us, after what may have been a number of years during which you’ve always felt that you’ve had more creative ideas and more artistic inclinations than those around you; more to contribute to a conversation on aesthetics;
better ideas as to how to resolve a design problem.
Taking the time to produce a good working drawing just makes sense. Don't get stuck with a bad working drawing. Remember: A thoughtfully laid-out drawing should almost lead to success.
Before you do anything else, please read the following course orientation. If necessary, you should refer back to the course orientation regularly throughout your studies. It contains vital information regarding the manner in which your course is run, and includes instructions on how you’re required to present and submit work, contact your tutor, etc.
Your understanding and retention of the course orientation notes will have a significant effect on your success during your studies with us.
If you’re happy that you’ve absorbed all the important points in this Course Orientation, please proceed to study outline of AR.473 on the following pages.
It is my pleasure to teach you one of most important courses for architect and the profession practice, also it is very important experience for the student to learn how to build or execute the details of buildings which he will design. I expect open minded researcher students with high attention and interactive attendance of all students. Also you should knew there is no one can answer your questions if you did not ask so don’t hesitate to do. Also you can send me mail or call me anytime.
Course Information
Course name and number : Working Drawing II - AR. 473 Course meeting times : From 10.00 To 13.00
Course meeting places : Computer Lab. I - at first floor room no.204 Course website address : www.kau.edu.sa/fed (under construction) Course prerequisites and requirements
According the Department plan the student should complete (Working Drawing I Ar.472).
Also I prefer that Students who plan further work in field of construction and interior &
architecture design before they start to study this course they should Fulfill next courses:
(Structure in arch. Ar.360 & 361) – (Building Construction Ar.370 & 371) – (Mechanical systems in Arc. Ar.441)
Description of the course
(what, why, philosophy, teaching methodology)
In the previous part of course, the student used to prepare a complete set of working drawings for a given project. Through this second part course the student will involve with more details regarding coordination between the various systems related to the building systems;
structural, electrical, plumbing, architectural detailing, interior and exterior building. within architectural design specifications scope for the building
.
Teaching methodology:
The course you are considering is specifically designed for the Architectural practicing professional students. You will be working one-to-one with the Instructor to learn Working Details Design using one of your own projects. For example, if you are a builder, you will discuss with the Instructor the Building Construction details. If you are an Interior Designer, you will work with another who is currently enrolled in the Interior Design field. Our course package will serve as your reference while you are working. We will show you how to apply the information to your specific project. If you don't have a project no problem, we will provide you one.
The work at computer lab will allows us to supervise students while they are working, see your computer screen, discuss the work “fair scaled printed details is preferred”, give instruction, and help them to make changes to there projects.
This course uses a task-based approach. We teach system strategies first and coordination second then details adaptation developing.
All work revision and assignment should be performed at classroom in class time. As well it is allowed to complete final project at home within 1 week (optionally). So our course will be delivered in different phases depending on the building type and system of each student
1- Lectures: Building system definition as a technical arrangement concepts.
2- Application of AR-472 course on a given project and its illustration.
2- Application of chosen system concepts and principles to proposed project.
3- Final project: arrange the drawings according to revisions.
Course Objectives
Our student Should Learn how to coordinate the building systems within a building design and should be able to illustrate clear building details as the result of learning. Ar.473 is a second course of Working Drawing and Detail Design for architecture undergraduates. The course seeks to develop a student's awareness, abilities and skills of buildings parts and components, relations between each others. through both graphically and technically investigation of building parts details, towards the objective of being able to learn about detail design through informed observation, and to manipulate building systems to enhance architectural design objective, site visits to many construction fields. also through search for and developing systems details, Searching is a demand to enhance students capabilities to effectively express their architectural details experience.
Student role in the process of learning and teaching:
Its important to each student to knew how he will be expected to demonstrate his learning results, so Every student will develop his own project details according the instructions and supervisor revisions. Then submit the details applied to board on the final format sheet.
Refer to example sheet attached.

The course consists of main lectures and smaller sessions. It is designed to develop the basic systematic tools that are needed to understand, and model, the system elements acting within a building. The coordination between these elements will be extended to larger set of details.
The interaction between system elements and space is emphasized throughout the course with visual images included as often as practical. Daily homework, weekly quizzes, a final exam and building case studies are to be anticipated.
