The advisory committee chair has overall responsibility for guiding the student through all stages of the thesis or dissertation process to successful completion. Inform the student of the university's rule regarding maintaining continuous enrollment throughout the thesis or dissertation process;. Read thesis or dissertation drafts and provide adequate and prompt feedback, usually within approximately three (3) weeks;.

The committee's responsibility begins with the thesis or dissertation proposal and extends through the successful oral defense of the thesis or dissertation. Read drafts of the thesis or dissertation and provide appropriate feedback in a timely manner, typically within approximately three (3) weeks. The student should consult with the chairman of the advisory committee regarding the expected content and format of the proposal.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Approval

After the proposal has been approved by the full committee, the student must submit the proposal to the chairman of the advisory committee together with the thesis/dissertation proposal approval form. A copy of the certificate of completion received after completing the program must be submitted with the IRB application. The appropriate completed and signed forms must be submitted to the Department Chair for approval prior to submission to the OSRP for review by the IRB.

The department chairman returns the approved forms to the chairman of the dissertation or the dissertation's advisory committee for submission to OSRP. Students must submit a copy of the IRB approval letter to the advisory committee chair, department chair, and college dean before beginning to conduct the study. Therefore, students should plan to submit the application for IRB approval as soon as their proposal is approved.

Thesis and Dissertation Oral Defense

After the defense, the thesis/dissertation form for oral defense results must be sent to the Dean of the College no later than three (3) days after the defense.

Ethical Considerations for Writing and Publication

Authenticity, characterized by facts, honesty, accuracy and avoidance of false or exaggerated claims or implications;. The totality or inclusion and objective critique of opposing and opposing arguments and literature and the identification of limitations of the studies;. Appropriate and accurate referencing of all sources and information used in the thesis or dissertation; and.

Disclosure or clear statement of funding, employment, relationships or sources of personal gain that may constitute or imply a conflict of interest. For more complete guidelines regarding academic fairness, research, confidentiality, record keeping, and working with living participants, the student should consult the advisory board and review university policies and discipline-specific ethical principles. The student should bear in mind that a lack of knowledge cannot be considered a reasonable defense against the violation of ethical standards and that violations can lead to fairly severe penalties, including dismissal or the withdrawal of a degree granted.

INTRODUCTION Introduction Introduction

Using declarative statements, explain the problem and how and why it has developed over time. It should include the importance, magnitude, and relevance of the problem to educational leadership, social justice, and transformational leadership (these are the tenets of FSU's doctoral program). Previous studies in the field that show the gap, identify the gap and justify your study should be included.

This section discusses the purpose of your study and who it will benefit from (ie, practitioners, policy makers, administrators, educator preparation programs, etc.). Frameworks are required components of the dissertation at FSU. theoretical = theory or conceptual = model) is the lens through which we look at your study. It sets the stage for your research questions and is reflected in your research questions.

Before choosing it, be sure to discuss with your chair to ensure that what you are using provides the best lens for your research goals. Research questions are developed based on your framework and are largely influenced by your problem formulation. For example, if your framework is Bandura's self-efficacy, then your research questions will center around the elements of Self-Efficacy Theory.

If your framework is critical race theory, your research questions will reflect elements of CRT. Although it is a very personal part of your research, all facts should be supported with citations. Any terms that are particularly relevant to the topic under discussion should be defined in the text as used and in this section.

You as the researcher can decide, but you must define it according to its specific application to your study, and your use of terms must be consistent.

LITERATURE REVIEW

METHODOLOGY

Describe the criteria you will establish or determine for your participants and justify them with citations from the literature. For example, if you plan to interview teachers, explain the level (elementary, middle school, high school), whether they needed a certain amount of time in the classroom, gender if applicable, etc. Be sure to state that you will obtain the appropriate approvals from the appropriate entities (eg, Institutional Review Board, school district, etc.) before beginning the study.

Describe step by step how you intend to collect your data (for quantitative studies this includes where and how you will collect your data). Keep in mind that you want to be specific if other researchers want to repeat the steps. Specify for data management how data will be stored, where it will be stored and for how long it will be stored.

You want to make sure you cover the transcription process in detail for interviews, focus groups, and even observations and field notes. Simply stating that the data is coded for emerging themes is not enough. Specify specifically whether you use content analysis, thematic analysis, narrative analysis, constant comparative analysis, inductive/deductive reasoning (or a variation thereof), and the different coding procedures.

Read as much as you can about qualitative data analysis to ensure that this section communicates rigor. Finally, if you are using a qualitative (ie NVivo) or quantitative (SPSS) software management program, explain and cite it. Again, you need to make sure you're citing more than one source.

Next, discuss any potential risks or potential harm your participants will face and how you will mitigate them.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Overview of Study

SECTION FOUR

  • Thesis and Dissertation Editor Responsibilities
  • Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, and Word Usage
  • Paper Quality
  • Duplication
  • Photographs and Prints
  • Spacing
  • Typeface/Font
  • Margins
  • Page Numbering
  • Abbreviations and Symbols
  • Format and Placement of Tables, Figures, and Reprints
  • Correction of Errors
  • Common Errors and Frequently Misused Terms

Do an editorial review of the thesis/dissertation and give written feedback on the thesis/dissertation. A thesis or dissertation should reflect the work of an academic expert and should therefore be free of spelling, grammar, punctuation and word usage errors. Color and B&W photographs, drawings, diagrams or maps must be clear, sharp and reflect high quality duplication.

Each section in the document must be double-spaced, unless otherwise specified in the style guide that governs the standards for the document. Page numbers should be typed in the upper or lower right margin of the page, one-inch (1- inch) from the edge of the paper OR page numbers should be centered at the top or bottom of the page one inch (1-inch) ) from the edge of the paper. Use lowercase Roman numerals (iii, iv, v...) for pages before the first page of chapter one, and use Arabic numerals starting on the first page of chapter one to the last page of the document.

Decisions on abstract numbering and inclusion of headers or footers should be made in consultation with the advisory committee and style manual. The use and format of any abbreviation or symbol must be uniform throughout the document and must conform to the style manual used to prepare the document. To avoid interruption of the writing, long or extensive tables, figures or reprints should be placed as an appendix and not in the text of the paper.

The format and placement of tables, figures, and reprints should be in accordance with the style guide used to prepare the document. The number and title or caption for each table should be placed two lines below the top line of the table; And. The number and title or caption of each image or reprint must be placed two lines below the last line or bottom of the image or reprint.

It is suggested that during all stages of the writing process, the student consult (a) the manual of style used to prepare the paper, (b) an excellent collegiate dictionary, (c) a graduate-level manual or textbook on grammar and.
