To create your own LinkedIn account, you need an email account (either work or home) that you have access to. You must also use a picture of yourself and your CV to set up your LinkedIn profile.

5 OPTIMISING YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE
GETTING FOUND IN SEARCH RESULTS
The more you have in common with the searcher, the higher you appear in the search results. If your profile is not 100% complete, you will come up far down in the search results.
HOW TO GET A 100% COMPLETE PROFILE LinkedIn considers a profile 100% complete if it has
In my case there are no 1st degree connections, over 200 2nd degree connections, almost 3000 group members and then almost 60,000 other people with that name. Although the first person shown doesn't have a picture (and therefore doesn't have a 100% complete profile), we have 3 shared connections and went to the same school.

If this is incorrect or has changed, then click on the pen icon next to your country to change it. Not only does it count towards the completeness of your profile, but this way, we know who we're talking about, if you're the person we're looking for, and that your account isn't likely to be fake. Also, by not having a photo, some people may assume that you don't know how to add one or that you have something to hide.
In any case, click the pen icon next to the field name and record the relevant information. When you set up your LinkedIn account, LinkedIn provided you with an alphanumeric URL that linked to the public version of your personal profile. On the right side of the public profile settings screen, you will see "Profile Content".
You have the option to make your public profile available to everyone or no one. If you choose everyone, you can select which parts of your profile you want to see shown.

On a paper CV, you should limit the jobs you include to the last 10 years, as anything older than that is unlikely to be relevant. If you're just starting out, you may have taken low-paying jobs to get you through college or university. If the company has a profile on LinkedIn, your personal profile will link to the company profile, showing you as an employee there.
As you register the city you were based in, LinkedIn will provide suggestions about the location, e.g. Indicate what you have actually done and how your work has contributed to the company you work for/ed. The Education section allows you to record the schools, colleges and universities you attended and the qualifications you obtained there.
In the case of profession-wide certification, record the qualification in the Education section and membership of the related professional body in the Certifications section. A second set of eyes can also spot career details you may have forgotten or overlooked.
LINKEDIN PROFILES IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES
This is your date of birth (or birthday, depending on how much you record) and your marital status. Although you would include them on a job application form, you could argue that you don't record this information on business cards, so you shouldn't actually record it here. Additionally, providing a potentially false link with your name, date of birth, address, and phone number could result in identity theft.
Again, this is something you would note on a job application, but not on a business card, so consider whether or not you need to note it.

Request to join - the group has been set up so that anyone who wants to join the group has to apply to join and in some cases provide proof that they belong to that group, e.g. In the search box, click the drop-down link on the left side of the search box and select. Click the "members" link to see how many people in your network belong to the group.
The statistics will include the demographics for the group such as the seniority of the group members e.g. Careers Tab - This is a paid tab, so the amount of information provided will depend on the size of the company.
DON’T FORGET
There are a number of people that LinkedIn allows you to follow via the pulse screen. Click on: "Interests", "Pulse" and then "All Influencers" to select the people you would like to follow. If they're the CEO of a company you want to work for, then there's even more reason to follow them.
As well as people, you can follow a variety of news channels (via the All Channels tab in Pulse) and news from different publishers (via the All Publishers tab in Pulse).
7 BUILDING CONNECTIONS
- WHAT ARE CONNECTIONS?
- THE TYPES OF CONNECTION ON LINKEDIN
- WHERE YOU CAN FIND CONNECTIONS
- SENDING OUT “INVITATIONS TO CONNECT”
- ACCEPTING “INVITATIONS TO CONNECT”
- REMOVING CONNECTIONS
If there is someone you don't know but would like to connect with, see if that person would be willing to introduce you. This can also be used to connect with people you know through your other social media accounts. Once you've found someone to connect with, you can then send an invitation to connect.
LinkedIn provides a standard message, "I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn", which basically says I'd like to connect with you, but doesn't say why and what you have to offer, especially if you're not the person have not met formally. If you know the person, they might respond to the basic message and accept your invitation, but if you're trying to connect with someone you don't know, you really will. We've looked at how you can find people to connect with, but you'll also receive invitations to connect, both from people you know and those you don't.
While it's flattering to be asked to connect with someone, there are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to accept an invitation. It could be that you have reached the maximum number of connections and someone who could add more value to your profile wants to connect.
8 JOB SEEKING ON LINKEDIN
JOB SEEKING 101
Once you have decided what you want to do, where you want to work and which companies/organizations you can work for, the next task is to do some research. You will need to research which sites they use, whether they are general or specialist websites. e) Newspapers, magazines or specialized publications. In either case, you should have some sort of CV that outlines your skills, experience and education.
Take a look at the job requirements and some of the keywords used in the job description to make sure your application is tailored to the position. If you've made it this far, you'll need to prepare and be able to answer at least basic questions like why you want this job or why you want to work for this particular company. It may take more than one interview, but with a little luck you will be offered the job.
WHERE TO FIND JOBS ON LINKEDIN
If you are looking for a job, your first port of call is the [Jobs] tab. When you click on the search icon, LinkedIn will display the results of the search criteria for your country. Now look at the post title and below you will see if any of your connections or anyone in your network is working there.
Click on the link to the vacancy and on the right you will see who that person/persons are. When you click the “Save Search” link, you will be given the option to create alerts based on those search criteria. What you will also notice is that some paid vacancies are also shared with groups where the person who posted the vacancy is also a member of the group.
On the [Home] tab, you will sometimes see recruitment agents posting a job via an activity update. If you're lucky, a contact might notice you and introduce you, but don't be afraid to introduce one of your connections.
9 KEEPING ON TOP OF YOUR LINKEDIN ACCOUNT
- LINKEDIN MOBILE APPS
- LINKEDIN INTEGRATION WITH MS OUTLOOK
- MANAGE EMAILS FROM LINKEDIN
- TASK LISTS
Click on the links in each screen and use the drop-down menus to decide whether you want to receive emails at all, daily or weekly. You've decided which emails you want to receive, but to keep track of them it's helpful to create a folder for these messages and then create a rule that specifies that all emails coming from LinkedIn will be in that folder being saved. Follow the prompts to create a new rule so that all emails from LinkedIn will be moved to the folder you set up.
I've also put together a series of to-do lists that you can use to manage your LinkedIn account. If you have received an invitation to connect, view the people profile and decide whether to connect or not. Also go to the [Groups] tab and see if any vacancies have been posted in your groups.
You may want to set up a separate folder for this and then create a rule so that all emails from LinkedIn are archived together. Keep track of your LInkedIn ACCount. You may want to make a note of this and see if any changes you make to your profile affect the number of searches you appear in.
