7. Official thesis title: Improve radio resource management efficiency in 5G ultra-dense network by optimizing paging message

8. Major: Telecommunication Engineering 9. Code: 8510302.02 10. Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

- Summary of overall architecture of 5th generation of telecommunication system with 3 main development directions including Evolved Mobile Broadband, Massive Machine Type Communication, and Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication.

- Understand the characteristics and technical requirements of 5G system such as user experience throughput up to 1Gbps, connection density up to 1 million connections per 1 square kilometer, latency of only several milliseconds, system capacity up to tens of Gb/km2, mobility support up to 500 km/h, and peak throughput up to tens of Gbps.

- Recognize basic changes from legacy 4G system to 5G such as resource allocation using new radio frame structure, flexible allocation based on use cases, beamforming and massive MIMO communication based on mmWave, addition of RRC- Inactive state to reduce signaling overhead to optimize radio resource usage.

- Analyze the critical needs of connectivity density as well as ultra-high data load required for 5G system. Then, understand the cause and concept of Ultra-Dense Network

- Realize and analyze the challenges of deployment and application of UDN such as challenges on system architecture, challenges on mobility management, interference and radio resource management in ultra-dense connectivity condition of UDN.

- Have an overview understand on network architectures, which are under- developing to solve the challenges of highly dense network such as 3GPP HeNB, Small cell enhancement, concept of UDN of METIS, and User-centric UDN.

- Understand technical research directions to solve the challenges in UDN such as flexible Self-Organized Network, backhaul improvement both wired and wireless, co- ordination of multi RAT, and the principle on mobility, interference and radio resource management effectively.

(2)

- Deeply analyze a topic on radio resource management. It is the signaling overhead of broadcasted messages, in particular paging messages. Summarize related works on increasing effectivity of paging procedure in 5G directional communication using beamforming.

- Review and evaluate a proposed solution on optimizing the size of paging message in order to save radio resource for paging broadcast. Submit an enhancement based on that proposed solution.

12. Practical applicability: The proposed solution of optimizing paging size, which is evaluated in this thesis, is analyzed and developed based on real network situation and 3GPP telecommunication specifications. Hence, it is certainly feasible to deploy in realistic environment if having agreement of 3GPP and the co-operation of service providers and telecommunication equipment manufacturers.

13. Further research directions, if any: N/A 14. Thesis-related publications: None
