From various soil and water samples collected from Do Son - Hai Phong ihe bacteria producing keratinase were isolated and screened, .\inong them, the besi keratmase pioducer designated as DS23 showed a great growth rate, a strong kei atinase acii\ity and be able io develop in a grealnumbers of gi owing media The strain DS23 was first idemified ,is Bacillus branch using the API 50CHB kit whereas its 16s rRNA gene sequence similaniies v\ere 99°o with B hchenifoi mis. The optimum conditions for keratinase activily of this train DS23 were pHS. 3"' C. in the medium coniaimnu per litre: glucose 10.0. peptone 10,0. K:HP04 1,0. MgSOj 7H;0 0.2. Na;C tX 3.0 with 11..'"n keratin solube as keralinase inductor and the initial bacteria concentration of 2%.

The best keralinase actiMi\ of 63.8 U/ml was obtained after 72 hours of incubation The crude enzyme from culture medium incubaied was able lo bydroKze the native feather.
