The much-talked about pedestrian crossing at Grenswag High School is slowly but surely becoming a

“place of safety” for learners.

A er the recent upgrade of a standard pedestrian crossing at the school’s main gate, safety and cau on was further enhanced with the addi on of rumble strips in both direc ons by the Rustenburg Municipality.

This was mostly due to the consistent eff orts of ward Councillor Martha Lerm. At the comple on of the strips last week were Amogelang Dilwane, Cllr Martha Lerm, Rodgers Mamitwa, Victor Keohitlhetse, Jerry Tshepe and Phinneas Mahanyele.

Extra speed humps will be added in due course Cllr Lerm said.

BONUS - RUSTENBURG- During a glamorous ceremony to salute and acknowledge South African Police Service (SAPS) members in the North West, Brig Clifford Kgorane was crowned as the overall winner of the night.

He was announced as the overall winner. Apart from being a Commander, he was regularly tasked to attend to serious reported cases that needed his know-how and guidance.

Through his skills, guidance and dedication, four rhino poaching suspects were sentenced to a combined 90 years imprisonment. He led a number of serious high profile cases like the alleged murder of Matlhomola Mosweu of Coligny and also successfully led Operation Kolomaka in Rustenburg, where 19 suspects were arrested. No work experience required for entry-level government jobs

The pronouncement was made by Public Service and Administration Minister Ayanda Dlodlo.

The agency said it has championed this call in various platforms, including the recently held Jobs Summit.

“The NYDA has been at the centre of this discourse through lobby and advocacy. Even during the much- anticipated Jobs Summit, we remained steadfast that the only practical way to reduce the high youth

unemployment rate in the immediate is scrapping of experience for all entry-level jobs,” NYDA Executive chairperson Sfiso Mtsweni said.

He said the agency remains the hope for young people as it will drive the agenda for socio-economic emancipation. The Minister has also declared the introduction of a new Z83 form for application of vacancies.

RIMS Emergency Simulation

exercise on Bakwena N4 route a success

BONUS - RUSTENBURG- The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has welcomed the pronouncement that from 2019, job seekers will no longer need work experience to get an entry-level government job.

BONUS - RUSTENBURG - The N4 RIMS (Road Incident Management System) committee from North West and Bojanala facilitated a simulated emergency exercise on the Bakwena N4 route at the Mooinooi Interchange as part of a Trans Kalahari Corridor, together with other stakeholders which included Imperial Logistics, Basella Maintenance, Netcare 911, ER24, Lonmin Mines, North West Traffic Department, SAPS, Madibeng/Rustenburg Fire and Emergency and North West Pathology/

Forensic services.

This exercise forms part of the mandate to test the capabilities of the emergency services on the national road network, which ensures that incidents are attended to and managed in a quick, efficient manner.

All objectives of the simulation were achieved and some valuable lessons learnt came out of bringing together the various services.

The simulation made use of a “crash” involving a tanker carrying sulphuric acid and a class 1 vehicle.

There were four “injured” patients and one “fatality”.

The scene was attended by all relevant emergency authorities timeously and treated as thought it was a “live’ crash site, which showcased Hazmats capabilities in treating an acid leak from the tanker, which needed to be contained prior to ambulance/

firefighting teams approaching the scene due to threat to their own lives from the acidic fumes and to prevent damage to the environment. While the incident was

being managed, the SAPS and traffic authorities controlled the traffic at the scene to minimise the impact on traffic flow. A debriefing was held for all emergency personnel afterwards in order to determine in which areas improvements could be made in the management of such incidents on the route.

Liam Clarke, project manager at Bakwena, says that the simulation exercise is key to achieving Bakwena’s vision of zero fatalities along the N1N4 route. Road incident management continues to be a vital tool in dealing with crashes efficiently to maintain free traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users using the route. The exercise was attended by senior officials from Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.

Bakwena would like to thank all role-players who attended the simulation exercise in a quick and efficient manner and is proud to be part of such a well co-ordinated system.

“Antoinette’s beautiful and really impressive artwork of a simple subject such as a fried egg, is totally original and her skills were absolute stunning in reflecting exactly what the eye sees”, chief judge Johannis Pienaar said. To top it all, Antoinette never had any art tuition or classes of any kind at all, she is totally self taught and enjoys painting as a wonderful hobby - but she is not tied down by it. Congratulations Antoinette - we do hope to see more of your entries and that you enjoy the prize-money! Antoinette has entered at the Pick n Pay Greystone Crossing where the paintwork is currently displayed. The public is encouraged to go and have a look at what some artists can do - it is really amazing! From the Pick n Pay Store in Beyers Naudé (Lifestyle Square) the 13-year-old Nokutenda Matema has emerged as the winner and will be delighted by her prize-money of R1 000 - congratulations to Nokutenda and her family - we know the prize-money will come in very handy. “Of all the entries I have judged in the competition, this one probably took the most effort and patience, but still the young Nokutenda soldiered on”, Johannis said. “The end result

is really pleasing and I consider it a very worthy second winner.” Nokutenda also wins prize-money of R1 000 - congratulations!

Rustenburg Herald also thanks Johannis Pienaar for helping us to choose the winners!

New Blank Space Art competition in full swing - lots of cash to be won!

Rustenburg Herald and Bonus wish to congratulate our worthy winners of our popular Blank Space Art competition of last week - we are sure the prize-money would come in handy during the fast approaching Christmas holiday recess.

Now it is our pleasure to announce the our new competition is already in full swing. As explained earlier, you should use the blank space in Rustenburg Herald and Bonus to work on. You could choose any medium - oil, pencil, pen, charcoal, even glass, wood, ceramic or whatever you could think of.

Perhaps there’s more creativity in using a medium that is really unique - especially if it suits or compliments your type of art.

Whatever you do - it is important that you use only original cuttings of the Blank Space entry form to create your art. You may also attach the original cutting on glass or any other medium of your choice.

We are also pleased to announce that in

future, two winners will be selected from the Pick n Pay Beyers Naudé and Pick n Pay Greystone Crossing every month. A cash prize will be awarded to both our winners!

You are welcome to enter your artworks at any of these Pick n Pay Stores, Rusoord and Huis Sering Homes for the Aged and the office of Rustenburg Herald/Bonus in 13 Coetzer Street. Come one - show us what you can do - there is no entry fee! The closing date is Sunday, 18 Desember. Remember, there is no charge for entering the competition! The two winners will be announced in Rustenburg Herald of 19 December 2018 whereafter you are wished a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Meet our winning artists

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Yes, we know that eggs are great for breakfast, but the way an egg was painted by Ms Antoinette Nel - a local artist who has entered our Blank Space Art competition for the first time, looks so appetising that we simply couldn’t get eggs (and bacon) out of our minds.

Mrs Antoinette Nel - one of our winning artists who will be walking away with prize-money of R1 000 in her back pocket or is it hand bag? Above she is congratuled by Leticia Cronjé of Rustenburg Herald.

Nokutenda Matema - our second winner of a R1 000 cash prize in this month’s Blank Space Art competitition (second from right) congratulated by Jolene Fourie of Rustenburg Herald. With her in the photograph are Mr Ncube Jonathan (teacher), Shammah Matema (sister) and Ms Joyce Matema (mother).
