The hon. presiden of the society is Mrs. S. G. Millin, with Dr. M. C.
Weiler and Mr. H. L. Karnovsky as vice·presidents. A committee of 20 was chosen to carrv on the ambitiou programme of the· society, with M1·.
Solly Yellin as vice-chairman.
Rabbi Dr. M. C. Weiler, in addre s- ing the gathering, stressed the valw·
of institutions like the Palestine Or~
chestra and Habimah in their rela tion to ~·orld Jewry. Jews in all parts of the world could draw influences frotn the artistic movements in the Yishuv, while ~hose institutions thern- selves \vere prevented from becoming provincial by the reciprocal influences drawn from world Jewry. It was the relationship of centre at~d circumfer- ence- mutually beneficial and neces- sary.
A watch was presented by the society to Mrs. Dorah Sowden, who is shortly leaving for overseas and
\Yho has worked on the committee for several years. lVIrs. Hayman, in making the presentation, expressed the society's appreciation of Mrs.
Sowden's help.
